Made it out
« on: Sep 09, 2020, 07:38 AM »
Took a couple friends out haddock fishing Monday and was not disappointed. We took the 21 mile ride to the ledge it was wet horrible ride. Just a nasty angle to where we were going. Still kept the boat at 19 knots. Got to grounds at 715 and we were on.  Up and down for the first hour then the search. It didn’t have to go far every time we moved. Only about a 100 yards and anchor again. Haddock was on the menu for us but we caught a few cusk friend wanted a couple for chowder and would have had our cod limit but we were a day early. Ended up with out limit of haddock witch was 60 five cusk and a couple red fish. Might be the last trip for me. Hunting next week and hopefully the fall crappie vote. So if it is it was a good trip to end on

How deep?

How many ounces of sinker to get you to the bottom?

I keep looking for a day that is flat enough for me to get out there but it seems like NNE at 10-15 winds are here for a while.

Sounds like good times, and some meat for the freezer... tough to beat that.

188 to 200 was the magic number that day been fishing the same little jump area all summer and it is still producing we just use 16 ounces once and awhile we break out the 20 ounces but 98 percent time is the 16

Thank you!

Are they usually on high spot or a valley?

I look forward to playing cod roulette next week.

That's the game where once you've boated a big enough cod to take home, you get to speculate, "Will I get a bigger one?  Should I keep this one or send it back?"

My chowdah and fried cod dinner will be quite expensive if I don't bring home so haddock in the cooler.

Sometimes on a hump just look around and find pods of fish and work on them Jeffries is a big place and a lot of fish there

Thanks for the tips!

When the wind calms down I'll be out there.
