Good question Farmer. Going crappie fishing in the morn with Billditrite, and Left Handed Model. Billdit has a marcum and I have a vex. Opposing ends of canoe. I will let you know what we come up with.  Rich
Now there's 3 of a kind that could beat a full house!  ;D

the lawrance   x67c     ice machine has a max depth of 600'

I saw this last night while doing some research...  it has all the features of a flasher with mapping and a gps.....  for 20 dollars more than the Marcum LX-5....   it has adapters to make it a year round tool.....  anybody have any experience with this unit?.....   If I'm gonna spend that kinda of money,  I might as well have it all..... ;)

lefty if you have any other questions i will be more than happy to help you out

I am actually looking at this one....  it looks like it has a screen that looks like a flasher with the colors for the the water column, fish, and your lure.....  I think it may be the newer model of the 67...

Here's the info I got off of fishusa.com...
Lowrance M68C S/Map Combo Ice Machine

The new Lowrance M68C S/Map Combo Ice Machine features a portable Sonar, GPS+WAAS and detailed marine mapping built into one unit for a total depth, fish locator and GPS mapping solution!

The "Ice Machine" mode color digital LCD display provides sharply defined real time sonar readings, as well as an adjustable on-screen sensitivity control bar. The Colorline feature separates fish and structure from the bottom, as well as indicating bottom composition and hardness. This mode also includes a battery status indicator, with continuous readings from fully charged to empty.

The scrolling graph display mode indicates targets as flat lines. Movements of the fish are easily detected by the up and down variations in the straight line targets on the screen. You can often see your lure in this mode, enabling you to just adjust the lure's depth to match the vertical movement of the fish in real time.

Key features of the M68C S/Map Combo Ice Machine include the following:
3.5" diagonal sun-readable display
256 color, 320 x 240 pixel resolution, 1/4 VGA active matrix TFT display
Over lay feature displays GPS data over sonar screens or sonar data over GPS screens
White LED backlighting for the screen and keypad in low-light or night conditions
Water-repelant, soft nylon pack bag with carrying handles and rubberized bottom
Built-in molded tray with tie downs
12 volt, 7 amp rechargeable, sealed battery and charger included

I was looking at gps units too....so the bigger tag can be justified,  I'd only use the GPS for fishing reasons.   Does yours have the flasher like screen?  and does it work like the flasher does in that respect?  I enjoyed the video game feel when trying a couple last season,  and I'm up against a couple of flasher experts for the Crappie League.....  I don't want to get left in the dust....

I know we're not talking apples to apples here because of all the other features that the lowrance has with the sonar, gps, etc.  Have you ever compared it to a vex or marcum for the jigging aspects on the ice?

its all in how well you interpret the info youre getting lefty. the x68 is the total package. i would prefer a smaller hand held GPS unit so you can bring it with you anywhere. marsh has the x67 and had it at crappieville last year. from what i could see it is just as good as a vex or marcum when in flasher mode. i didnt use it but i watched him

That's what I needed to hear....  for a $20 difference...over the marcum lx-5  and a good handheld gps starts at $100...  I think I made up my mind...  I'll use the extra $80 for a second battery......I gotta start writing my Christmas list I think...... :P

I purchased a Ultra Pack FL-12 Dual Beam Transducer.

Great piece of equipment, I never leave home without it, and I would reccomend it to anyone. It will run you about 500 dollars, and is worth every penny. Unless you're fishing in Rose Valley, PA. :P
