Title: Jigwiggler's 2004 Fishing Pics
Post by: Jigwiggler on Jun 30, 2004, 05:44 PM
Well in an attempt to be a little more organized I am going to start posting all my pictures here.  I never used to carry a camera with me fishing and missed out on alot of great pics.  After frequenting this site and the Shanty I started carrying my camera to share some of my catches and fishing adventures.  Some pics are new, some are repeats, all are from this year after ice out.  Included will be pictures of myself, Muskyhunter (my father) and other friends.  Enjoy!!

My first open water catch of the season, an early spring brown from Seneca Lake NY.  30" close to 11 lbs.

3rd trout outing, more brookies and a couple bonus fish  ;D  ;) It was too dark for anything but a meat shot when we returned.  :-[ :-\

Thanks Guys!!

wny angler,

yes my kids really love to go fishing and I sure do enjoy taking them.  ;D

Bayonne,

PA stills stocks a few, I really wish they wouldn't though.  They give away the location of the majority of the trout in a hole or run.  Makes it easier for everyone to see them.  My son thought they were pretty cool though.  8)

More pics on the way, boated a beauty this morning.

LOL, he'll be glad to hear it.  We've been so busy lately it's even hard to find time to get your ears lowered. ;D

All the pics in the last set are from the last 2 weeks with the exception of the last bass pic which was from earlier in June when the water was still up.

OK, I know it's been a while, time is something I have not had alot of this year.  Between work, family and trying to get some fishing in  ;D the pictures kind of got pushed to the side.  The next round is more musky pics from the Susquehanna river from early July.

Here's Muskyhunter with a nice 47" fish, this fish was caught during the MFF tourney but someone who will remain nameless forgot the tape.  :-[ :-\  Sorry dad.  ;D

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv160%2Fjdibble4726%2FFish%2Fdadmusky2.bmp&hash=c5f81eabe8b27b1fb44111d779bdc528)

Myself with a small-ski  ;D  Man was this fish scrappy!!  I thought it was a much bigger fish when it hit and gave a great, acrobatic fight completely clearing the water 4 times!

Thanks guys!!

Your dad's musky is a real giant.  He must really know what he's doing to catch fish like that.

You've got that right Slipbob!!  He sure has a knack for muskies.  Bass fishing we're pretty even, for eyes he got a slight edge but, when it comes to musky he flat out whoops me!  I've witnessed him boat numerous 50"+ fish with a biggest of 52 1/2".  :o  Unfortunately his place of business burnt to the ground in 97'.  Along with it 17 musky mounts, 4 walleyes from 10-13 lbs., bass, salmon, trout, several monster bucks, bear, moose, elk, tons of trophies and much more. :'(  Since then he hasn't mounted anything he has caught and has become mostly a C&R fisherman (except for those tasty eating size walleyes  ;) ) or I would have countless pictures to post of our combined trophies.  Although he was thinking about it pretty hard on Sun. when he caught a 24" largemouth (green carp to you ;D ).

You are right, I'm sure the river will clear up as we head into fall.  Can't wait for fat walleyes to start feeding up for the winter.  ;)  I don't fish for musky much then, besides I'd rather catch them in warm water conditions where they can fight to full potential.

Thank you Grump!!  You've got some nice pics on here yourself (love those big cats!!) .  I sure do enjoy fishing with my family.

I've never been to eagle lake but was talking to slim slinger about some perch that became fish food there on another thread.  I don't know where it is but, if the fish there have enough of an appetite to devour an entire stringer of perch I want to find it.  ;D

Nice pics Josh! That fish of your dad's is a whopper. Looks like I might need to make a trip down to fish the Susky in PA. I live near the headwaters, but there aren't any muskies before Binghamton. I lost one last year on the St. Lawrence River, and I want REDEMPTION!!

Those are great jw.  I love the Oneida pics the best as I spent some time fishing that as a kid, and it holds a special place in my fishing past.  I probably wasn't much older than your boy when I first went there, and caught bluegills and walleye with my dad and a family friend who had a boat.  I'm looking forward to your next pics buddy.   ;D

Slipbob, Oneida is a special place for me as well.  Many found memories of fishing there with my father and grandfather as a child.

I'll tell him BW.  He just thought of it as another fish but, there is something special about your first walleye. ;)

Most of the fish were given to friends and relatives who enjoy them.  I did keep 2 salmon for myself and they were delicious!!  The key is getting them from the cold waters of the lake before they start there fall runs.  Once they hit the warm river waters they loose all firmness and taste.

Thanks to all for your comments. ;D

JW, what's the price for a charter like the one you were on?  I'd like to take the boy's out maybe this year or next.

$400-450 for the boat/day, split that between 4 guys and its not bad at all.  All you bring is food and drink, sit back and reel in fish.  I wouldn't want to fish every day like that but it was nice for a change.  If it's rough at all I have to keep busy to keep from getting sea sick.  Last time we went out there was 6-9' swells most of the day so I was struggling a little.  The captain we fished with let me run the rods, riggers, net the fish, pick the spoons, all he did was run the boat ( which was a handfull in those conditions) except for when it was my turn at bat. ;D  For me that was great, alot of captains won't let you touch anything until there is a fish on.  It's a good experience and a great way to get on fish if you don't fish them yourself regularly.  These guys know there stuff and are on them day after day.  Being able to start where you left the fish the day before sure eliminates alot of water which is a big help on a lake of that size.

LOL!  Thanks hookset!  The good news is most of the big fish I catch are released and are still swimming around out there to be caught (and hopefully released again).  Obviously the trout and salmon pictured were kept but for the most part I only keep panfish and smaller walleyes.

good man jw. Remember to try to release the female trout as the trout are some of the least successful spawners. Keep all the males you want as long as you don't catch 'em all ;)

Very nice shots of the lakes. Brings back memories of when I used to ply the waters of Ontario, sleeping in my boat in the parking lot at the launch at Oswego.

Thanks Bartman, I've done the same in the past.  They used to let you park a camper in the lot years ago, then they put a stop to that.  So we would just pull the coil wire off and claim we were broke down and waiting for help.  :whistling:

I would have like to released more of the Steelhead we caught but the guide we went with was so worried about losing a lure he wouldn't let us tighten the drag enough to put adequate pressure on the fish and they were so played out by the time they were boated, coupled with bringing them out of 47 deg. water, release was not an ethical option.

Don't worry, when I'm stream fishing or in my boat it's 100% release on Steelhead and Browns.

Got out for some Bass fishin' with Muskyhunter before the hurricane.  Alot of action, many average fish but this one demanded a picture.  Muskyhunter with a 24.5" Largemouth that measured 18" around, no scale but my estimates put it over 8 lbs. :o

Nice fish.  According to the calculator at http://www.rodworks.on.ca/records.html, it would be just under 10 lb.  I've seen another calculator like that that let's you pick species...I'm gonna try to dig that up....

Title: Re: Jigwiggler's 2004 Fishing Pics
Post by: Thriller on Sep 26, 2004, 10:32 AM
OK, here are a few...

http://www.outdoorsite.com/fishingcalc/index.cfm (would make it 9)
http://www.fishdreams.com/calculator.all_species.html (gives 9.9...same as previous post)
http://www.gsmfc.org/sasweb/fishsize.htm (this one is for saltwater fish only, but thought I'd include it...)
http://www.liveleaderboard.com/fish-weight.asp (walleye, pike, bass and bluegill - 9.19 lb)
http://www.iceshanty.com/iceshanty/fish_weight_calculator.php (IceShanty)
http://www.bcfishingreports.com/fish_calculator.html (for steelhead & salmon)
http://www.rodnreel.com/fishcharts/FishCharts.asp (for species around the Gulf Coast - no pike, walleye, etc.)
http://www.bassresource.com/bassfishing/fishcalculator.html (this one has 6 fish types, so may be a bit finer than some of the others - just over 9)

You get the picture...there are many others.  Many of them divide into only 2 types, so I think would be a bit more of a rough calculation.  The ones for walleyes tend to be on the light side for the big fish (either that or everyone who catches 28-30 inch fish are grossly overestimating the weight).

Cool!!  Thanks for the links Thriller!!

There is a weight estimation formula thread going on here, you should add those links to it.

Be it 8 or 10 lbs., either way it was a HAWG of a bass.  Muskyhunter is seriously considering getting a reproduction made.
