Son and daughter in law moving to Charlotte from northeast.  I live in Maine and would like to know a place or two near (within an hour) of there to fish when I visit them.  Don't want to hire a guide, just spend a little time checking out a new state and expand my horizons a little.  Fresh water is my preference and bass, trout or crappie from shore or a rented boat on a river or lake, maybe.  Won't have much time when I do go there since I want to see my grandson, but really want to see something of the outdoor life of the region.  Thanks for any tips.  No hurry on this, as it will be at least late spring-early summer 2005 before I ever go there.

Lake Norman is the closest to Charlotte, I am in Raleigh, so thats about all I know of in that direction.  Heres a link that may be helpful, good luck if you get out when your there.
