new to the sport
« on: Jun 17, 2005, 07:17 PM »
Well I just picked up my first rod and reel this week and have done a bit of practicing and am heading out tomorrow for some carp and cats.  Im not expecting to catch anything but it should be fun.  But fly fishing is turning out to be a very cheap sport for me.  I got a old float tube and waders for free from a guy, than I won a fly rod in a contest so all I had to buy was the reel, line and backing and a couple flies to start.  The rod is a custom built 8wt rod and I got the Okuma sierra 7/8 for it.  I cant wait until I am able to get some fish.

I plan on trying it on as mant species as possible.   Ive been practicing in the park by our house and so far I can do the basic back/forwardcast and I am still working on my false cast but its getting there.
