Fly hooks
« on: Mar 26, 2010, 10:40 AM »
Can flies be tied onto or be used with circle hooks? I don't remember the style of fishing where the fly was tied on a neutral body and followed by a circle hook. That i think is illegal here, could the flie be tied on a circle hook? To make it legal?

i would think so with some practice. look at some of the steel head patterns, with the black hooks they look like modified circle hooks, i think they're cat fish hooks. all you have to do is buy a blister pack of ten and work it till you get it the way you want it. i was going to try it last year but i ran into other projects that took more time then i wanted. but i will be tiring at some point this season. if you get to it first let us see it.

i've tied a couple shrimp patterns on circle hooks for trout, but the wide bend makes them seem a bit awkward. might work better with smaller hooks.
