Hopkington res. salmon today
« on: Apr 01, 2012, 05:39 PM »
;D Went out today with my uncle and my brother to Hopkington res. We fished for 2 hours with a few strikes and one that did a balerina jump out the water and shook my uncles hook >:(.  We trolled out to the islands by the road. My brother had a big strike and after a few minutes of head shakes and runs I netted a nice 23 inch 4lb salmon. Here's the thing we took it for the table of course but when we filet it filled with eggs???? I thought they only stocked retired fish? Is it possible they could put some in that are still fertile? Is it possible that they could reproduce???

Nice fish!! Congrats to your bro! One of the ones I caught last year ice fishing was also filled with eggs. Not sure if they reproduce or not.

if theres a big enough river for them to spawn in then yes they may. in ny theres like 2 lakes in the state were they reproduce naturally

I do know they are retired but my tought was it is small so it can't be that old . Filled with eggs in a very clean resevoir is it possible to reproduce?
Why would they retire a fish that young?

yea i get there real early like 4-430 am to avoid the ramp cluster and sit back and watch the last minute fishermen. boats not starting all kinds of funny things happen. you wouldnt believe.

you gotta love this .every year theres a boat or 2  that has to run his planer boards and take  up the whole lake ::) its combat fishing at its best. fishing is usually great tho. making it worth it. maybe i should run my planer boards this year ;D ;D.
