Thanks moose,

I'm going to be coming back home around the 21st of october, and am looking to try my luck at the res...
I'm going to be taking my little brother with me, and he's a big fan of catching smallies, salmon, and mudrats...

Are these fish still going to be active around this time? and if so... around what areas of the res would be best to fish?

I'm going to get shiners for the trip, and of course an array of artificial stuff.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

as fall comes around trout begin to spawn. when the water temp drops they come closer inwards to 20 fow or less. befor ice fish look to fatten up.. big bait will bring in big fish.. there are some monsters in the ressi!! lakers in the 20+# range are not inpossible!!  and rainbows and brookies and salmon alsop get quite large..  just gatta be in the right spot at the right time.  powerbait will bring in the stockies.. i myself rather fish the natives. worms blown up are a fav. of all trout!  the shinners should do well too! i like to use native baitfish.. perch mostly. hope it helps..   anymore quiestions send me a pm  i know my share on the ressie...

It's MUDSHARKS, not mudrats!, MUDSHARKS is the Clinton definition of a Lake Trout and rats are fish that need to be removed 17 - 24 inch fish that are straining the bait population.
Throw'em out with bait, kick back and wait !

Went out this morning, no runs, no fish...
fished the scar bluff hill area, ran into another guy, he had one run, but no fish.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit better... going to go back later on, haven't decided whether the quinapoxet or some other part of the ressie...

SALMON STACKING UP, PLENTY OF WATER TO MAKE IT UP STREAM, heard of 4 to5#ers pounding crawlers, STILL WATER RIVER MOUTH, ALSO TAKING 3/8 oz DEADLY DICKS ANS SWEEDISH PIMPLES, HEARD IT FROM SOME OLD TIMERS WHO DON"T SHARE SPOTS OR BAITS. DIEHARD 70 plus fellows from CLINTON.
Throw'em out with bait, kick back and wait !

went today with some crawlers by the rt 12 bridge.  no sign of fish till it was gettin dark I could hear some fish floppin around and jumpin one accually just a few feet out from where i was standing.  Like I said it was dark but i'm assuming trout hitting baitfish near the shore may go back tomorrow with some shinners, how you guys reccomend i fish them, I usually only use shinners on the ice, should I put them under a bobber or float or just weight um down and fish um near the bottom. Any advice would be great.

Church Side or Big Water Side ?   12-18 leader tied to barrel swivel, size wgt. on reel side. WGT. determined by rod size, up to 1 0z egg,  example 7' med/hvy rod  3/4  oz -1ozwgt. on 10lb. hook through dorsal or head.  Personally I use 7' custom made Fenwicks (f/glass) w/ 6lb mono, very small bead 3/4 egg and #2-#4 Gammu bait tied in this order, string wgt., string small bead ( I use the bead to keep weight from smashing on the knot or in some cases with weight getting stuck on hook)and tie hook. I dont use a leader, Hook bait through head and rip it out there. Less drag through the air casting and you still end up with a leader because the wgt. sinks faster than the bait but you can't set a tight line because you will bring the bait back to the weight, it takes some practice. I use lighter line than most, I set a good drag and my rods softness gives me a couple of lbs. extra, and knowing my area gives me more. Hooking through head lets me give it some extra oomph and less chance of chumming bait( ripping of hook), Man,in the late spring you have to get it out there, esp. in shallow water as temps rise and fish bigger fish start to move to deeper colder water.Rats (small fish) have a tendency to be anyplace as their metabolism is not as delicate as the larger fish. Not now as Lakers spawn in fall as do Brookies/ Char family both. The rest are springers in locked water. And less than 2% of the stocked 'bows and browns reproduce. Landlocks, although not as successful as they first anticipated, make there run in Fall if the water rises up, and  it's up nicely, thats where you should be. Fishing the 2nd Bridge from Chapmans Well Co., and thats the 3rd up from the Old Church. all the way up the Still Water. The new State Record Laker fell there( STILLWATER BASIN) a couple of falls ago on a lure. And there have been some fine double digit fihs taken there as well, lunching on those Salmon. On the big body I'll give you a Idea of a set up to consider for fishing for Lakers on bait, Pikes fom 4-7 inches or so.(firm beleiver in big bait, big fish) Cabella's used to sell 8' spinning rods for around 20 something $( 15 yearsago) and a SHIMANO 3500 baitrunner w/ 10# test(you could go to 12 or 14#) and a 1oz egg The rod was a Daiwa downrigger spinning style,be careful as they have a conv. style also. I forget if they are a med/hvy or fast action( tip strength orbackbone) and are rated for 10-25lb line. I just looked at Cabella's, I don't see one but did notice this one wsm8m-2 Cabella Whuppin' Stick. On Sale for 30.00 too! These rods(Daiwa) can throw heavy baits or windy conditions or both and don't let the price fool you they are durable rods, I have 4 , 2, I gave to my son when I thought he was ready to handle a longer rod and 2 I let friends that like to go out with me once and a while but otherwise have no interest or understanding of gear or equipment (right tool for the job!) for conditions or species and I use them in the salt for dink stripers and blues, they throw 1-3 oz tins a mile( crocs cleos hops and k-masters etc) I chuckle, no I laugh my a-- off ( MODERATOR CHANGED MY ORIGINAL WORDS)when I see a guy (TOURIST)w/ the 5' rod with the 1 oz wgt all tied and reeled so tight the tip touches the butt and the Plano box and the 99 cent bait shop bait pail and a doz of pinheads and the 10 inch net . Seriously Mullen go up The Stillwater river end and throw one with a med shinner and throw hardware,  If youre looking for some Salmon, you'll have some luck and be able to fish 2 rods, if not find the Steel Bridge and drift crawlers all the way to open water, the last time I fished it I got 2, 6+ lbers,  and a ton of shorts, not to sure about the brush, has to be bad if the big body is in the shape it is, but there are still some easy spots to fish  If you want to fish for just Lakers( MUDSHARKS) head to the big water side with med/heavies and throw out 2 with bait and kick back and wait. Shallows are their breeding areas, don't waste time deep. There are a couple of boneheads that talk about baits and places they know nothing of. I'm not bragging, I have more time in the woods taking a dump than most have fishing the place. Do your homework you'll figure it out. E-Mail me if you want the perfect ressie rod and reel set up that is affordable and use it fishing other places. Your lucky, thats the most info I have ever given to anyone on fishing up there, must be the drugs from the accident I was in Tuesday morning.(see new pluggage post on Tidal Salt) Give it a shot and let me know how you did via P.M. Can't let everyone know or you'll have no place to go back to !!! Peace man......................go falcons dude ! I thought I read you are a student @ Fitchburg State?

Mullen, take note that they have designated hours, 1 hour before till 1hour after the rise and set of the Sun. And they have a staff to enforce it, esp. around hunting season as they have some property within the watershed now open to hunting. These areas are in the Quinipoxet region but they check on vehicles parked in other areas off rt. 70 and 110, making sure they have been fishing not poaching. Ton of Deer in those woods, they should consider opening up more of it at least to bowhunters, wishful thinking. I had a friend, who 1 season shot a beauty Buck, no weapon in possesion drug it out through the watershed land on the other side of the road. Shot in legal land dropped in restricted land, took the easy way out and was promptly arrested, deer taken 12PTR APPROX 225 WGT. truck impounded and he was cuffed and jailed. After a long court battle he won, but lost his trophy mount and a bunch of dough defending himself as he would have lost his right to hold a license for life. lesson here, like to hunt and fish ? OBEY GAME LAWS ! The price, to me, isn't worth the loss of the right to !
Throw'em out with bait, kick back and wait !
