Splake or Laker?
« on: Sep 01, 2005, 02:01 PM »
We have been catchin some  very nice trout lately and are beginning to wonder if these are splake or lakers, at first we thought lakers but this one here along with the rest has some super orange fins with white tips and such, i really dont give a rats ass but if they are splake then mike was only a couple pounds off the state record, then it will be worthwile....what do you guys think?

100% Laker, they can get pretty colorful.   Splake and backcross splake have less of a fork in their tail.

TS has a good point, also there are no vermiculations across the back, not even faint ones.

Laker, there are no brook trout vermiculation marks on that fish's back. The tail fork is a dead giveaway.

Nice fish.
