Vertical Jig Fishing
« on: Oct 23, 2013, 08:38 PM »
Had a blast last couple times out vertical jig fishing. Once on
Tri Lakes last Friday and this past Tuesday on Lake James. Dinks out
in the deep with the slabs. Great way to fish though everything was in water
40-45' stacked starting at 28' Perch on the bottom. Used different colors
of 1" tube jigs and my Bricker vertical jigger setup that's I give full credit
to as the blank is setup perfectly giving the right action for the jig. Closest thing
to ice fishing and a deadly technique for here on out!

Would like to see a pic of the weight disbursement fishing a jig in this deep of water. Did you use a big slip shot about the jig to help get it down that deep I like to use no weight except the jig. Sometimes it takes forever. Thanks, Al

People laugh when they see the weight on the line. It's 1/4 oz Water Gremlin split shot three foot above the 1/64oz jig head. Basically it's a down rigger! The rod though is specifically made for using that sinker so it doesn't kill the action but it turns it into a ice fishing noodle rod concept. Bends off the get go and you jig it constantly varying the amount of jigging based of the response of the fish on the vexilar. It's just like ice fishing only your trolling a lot instead of drilling holes. The weight also keeps it in your transducer cone very easily even while the boat is moving a bit. Great way to enjoy some soft water ice fishing!!

That's how I fish for Perch on the big lake and its great fun if you can get this technique working on other lakes. looks like you got it mastered.

Nice haul and nice looking rod.  Like you said most laugh when you fish unconventional ways, but then again most people just fish and then there are those that catch.  I personally don't enjoy myself just fishing if I am not catching --  80/20 rule, 80% of fish caught by 20% of fisherman.  Keep the nice fish haul pictures coming.

I also think catch rates have to do a lot with the quality water your fishing. Skill and gear are huge but certain waters just produce fish.

I love to catch fish to and it can be frustrating when you can't get it going,   but I still enjoy being out on the ice or lake or river...  checking out nature..... beats work any day
