So what am I looking at here? Is this next to saltwater or Lake Ontario?
-
Sandy Pond, Lake Ontario. Better than the Ocean, all the sand and none of the salt.
-
You’re looking at water that is well over a foot low for this time of year and that will make it tough for bigger boats to get in or out of there.

Boats got hung up late last fall trying to get out , I could be wrong , but I believe that makes 3 times at big money to dredge

At least 3 times. There has to be a better solution.
-
With the money, that was spent to dredge, it could’ve been put to good use, like a break wall system possibly.
-
I think they are using the dredged sand to replenish some of the dunes. That is what one of the residents told me anyway.

That must be why the water is so low 😉
-
Word I got on the inlet is all channel markers have been removed , enter and exit the lake at your own risk
-
dredging was halted due to plovers nesting and won't start up again until the chicks are gone last I saw. Was 3' at the deepest but narrow and now being July she typically starts dropping but who knows anymore.
-
They can spend all the money they want on dredging , but the prevailing winds will just keep filling it in
-
Waste of money dredging…. Mother Ontario, along with Mother Nature are tough to beat.
-
How hard is it to suck up a bunch of sand and blow it in another spot? :o
And where is Jim? Haven’t heard from him this summer...
-
That’s what they have been doing ,Dom. But, lake out front of the outlet is nothing but sand.
-
That pic that Freddie posted not long ago, shows where most of the sand was moved to. Towards the island.
-
They have to let some fish in there for the winter.. ;)
-
Back not that long ago the dunes south of the inlet were wide and very tall, current ripped through the channel too keeping it open and where that big sand bar is now inside the pond was one of the deep spots on the pond. had a steep drop where fishing was fun. They'd need to do a monster project with a hard walled jetty out into the lake to have a shot at keeping it open long term and with lack of current doubt that would work. And real sand suckers like they use for ocean beach restorations. Don't see it happening. Totally agree the dredging they do is a waste of money. Sold family camp on Blind Creek last summer after 53 years. Water used to be clear in the pond too. Only constant is change i guess

Cool read but feel sorry for the residents..

Yo Guys & Gals,
Sorry I haven’t had too much to report this summer on the Pond. A confluence of Ill health, busted tilt & trim motor on Starcraft and just lowzy Perch fishing have had me wandering up the lake and into the river. (St Lawrence) Without giving too much away, I’ve been fishing Deep for the perch.
Back to the Pond, thanks Freddy for keeping the conversation going on the Pond. Equal thanks to KP ,Trap and the guys for informing the general fishing public of our access and egress problems from the Pond into the lake.
I can’t improve on the aerial Picts Freddy has supplied, just add a little narrative as you all know I am want to do.
Once I got my tilt and trim motor fixed I made several trips out to the cut from my camp off of Blind Creek. As I approach the cut from the south (open side) of the Pond, I witnessed boats especially pontoon boats grounded by cutting too wide when approaching the cut and after an hour of observing saw enumerable vessels keel bound on the interior sand bar. Observation and trial and error I found some boats hugging close to the west of the sand bar were actually getting through to the cut proper.
Once in the cut the water depth was more than ample depth to navigate, UNTIL, you got to the lake Beech itself which had a 6”surf cover over an all encompassing sand bar blocking access to the lake. This was fine for canoes kayaks and jet skis, but not enough for the Old Starcraft.
Suffice to say it was still a nice beech area to visit and pic-nic with the grandkids. Of course I didn’t bring my chocolate lab as he loves them sand plovers
Other than that, the water level in the Pond is still low. The weeds are high and I never caught as many of them pesky silver bass as I have this year.
Hope that brings everyone up to speed on the Pond. Yeh Dom, I’m coming up there to do some fishing with you my friend or we can sing in “Two Part Harmony”😎😎😎
