  • Screw the BS, let's go fishing.
Since i bet alot of you already know me from iceshanty, i figured i'd just do my 04' open water year in review in pictures

i like to get on the local streams and rediscover the leaks in my neoprenes in april

rainbows are fun too, my buddy and i teamed up for these.

The lakers can be fun to catch on champlain in the spring, their not monsters, but they come pretty easily

i do the crappie thing on occasion ;)

In the summer, i mainly fish bass tournies for money, but sometimes i'll spend a bit of time on other fish. i spent alot of time on saratoga lake (last year 4-5 days per week, mostly after work) made possible because i ran the lake lonley boat livery last year.

nice 27" saratoga eye

thin pike

Like i said, i do alot of bass fishing

heres a couple of nice bass from my first tourney win this year

nice evening bass on a risto rap

heres a nice 5lber from a secret pond :D

another 'toga bass

Here's a pic of the big tourney win i had this year, 19lbs for 5 fish, and lunker at 4.79lbs - saratoga lake of course

nice one from late fall

some fall river smallies from my favorite place to fish

In the fall, i also fish lake ontario tribs from salmon and trout

here is a typical salmon river salmon

dark steelhead

here is my friend with a big rainbow (not steelhead)

caught a few brown trout, too

not too bad for one season ;D
open water will be here soon 8)

although they are technically the same fish (Oncorhynchus mykiss), there are many different strains of rainbows, steelhead being one type of strain (there are actually dozens of different strains of steelhead too).  Here in NY, most of our steelhead spawn in the spring, and most of our rainbows in the fall.  Steelhead also fight differently than rainbows, with steelhead making super fast runs within miliseconds of being hooked, lightning fast direction changes, and usually the jump at least a few times, steelhead also almost always run out of the area they were hooked.  rainbows, however tend to make shorter runs, sometimes dont react immediately to being hooked and dont change direction as fast. rainbows will jump, but will rarely take the angler out of the area it was hooked.

the fish pictured was full of very ripe milt (was shooting it everywhere) and also did not run out of the pool.

Now this one caught my eye: Did you just get out of bed and go fishing in this pic bud? Looks like you got some severe pillow head happen' there; :afro: :whistling:

I can explain...I had just stepped out of my buddies bass boat after flying down the length of the lake doing 65mph in rough water , racing to get back to the weigh-in in time.
