Caught it this morning and we've been having a debate. I'm saying it's a steelhead buy everyone else in the group saying brown.
I don't know how well you can see with the cell phone picture, but there's a good green tint on his back. Caught it just south of Oswego, NY. 25 inches and about 6lbs.

That is 100% a brown trout, when you catch them in the lakes they dont have the darker colors alot of times they are just like that very shiny and silver.
-
Yeah, I came to realize that later. The green back and hooked jaw threw me off.

That tail is a dead give away. Just like a paintbrush. Brownie!

I'm a first timer on Ontario. The fish out here don't look anything like the trout on the little ponds and streams in the adirondacks.
If I see a deep green color, my first thought is to instinctively assume otherwise.

I caught a brown last Friday that looked just like that. I wasn't aware of how different they can look in big lakes because I've caught them in smaller lakes and they had all of their colors. This one was from a 500 acre, 150 ft deep lake. Don't blame you for second guessing.

Most definitely a Brown. Also... Browns have few, if any, spots on their tails. A Steelheads tail is heavily spotted.

Well thats obvious. The fish in your picture is actually the color of a brown trout. All the fish here are mostly silver. I was mostly thrown off because I've never seen a green and silver brown trout.
I'm all straightened out now though, since I've gotten a few of each in the boat.

Yeah just messin with ya. Ive caught browns out here that are almost silver in color. Will try and find a pic-

I've caught both types here in Wy. I get mixed up which is a Yugo and which is Loch Leven. My spelling probably incorrect but y'all get the idea ;D ???

Beautiful fish! When they get into the river system they turn colors before they spawn , I dont know how long they stay this way but they make for some very pretty pictures. Such a beautiful fish when they turn that dark golden color and weigh 15+. They loove beads under a float! Fun stuff :P
