I will be back state side for vacation in late June and a good part of July. I always like to take my nieces and nephews fishing when ever I can as my brother-in-law isn't much of a fisherman. I will be looking for something easy to do. Pan fishing with bobbers type thing. My question is where? I will be in Bettendorf. Any recommendations would be great.
Cheers

Go to the Mississippi. Great Sauger fishing lately! I haven't been there, but the DNR said that they were doing good! Same for panfish. Good luck!
-
So what kind of location should I look for? I haven't fished a river in a long time and I typically fished from a boat.

Uh... NO. Walleye and sauger are spawning, haven't been biting for weeks. Only getting 12" walleye every once and a wile. I've got 74 walleye and 4 sauger this year..... fantastic sauger fishing- NOT. Don't believe everything you read on the DNR website, lots of times its people calling in saying wrong info to get people away from their spots.
Not many places around here to get panfish, my best suggestion would be to try the canal above lock and dam 14. by mid july the bluegill and crappie will be in about 10ft of water and should be biting well.
If your the type that just wants to catch fish, head down to the park in downtown Bett and throw a night crawler on the bottom. You'll catch plenty of drum and catfish.

Thanks BBK. Yep, just looking for the kids to get a line stretched.

Cant beat bank fishing with nightcrawlers, you'll kids will enjoy it for sure. I'll warn you though, the bait shops here in Bettendorf are charging $3 for a dozen crawlers. A dozen crawlers will last 5 minutes bottom fishing in July. You'll catch freshwater drum from 1lb-15lbs and tons of small channel cats.

um, what? The DNR said that it was good...... ???

Catfish78, Get ahold of me when you get around here. I'll give ya the heads up. I'm always fishin with my 8 yo daughter.

So now that I finally got a turkey, i will be trying to go out and do some fishing this week. Does anyone have any info on anything that is biting in the area (I am in Bettendorf)? Any information that anyone is willing to share would be greatly appreciated. I will go after pretty much anything (walleyes, bass, cats,...carp), whatever is biting. Thanks!
-
Cats just started on stinkbait in pool 15. Find a rock bank in 8-10 feet of water and you will find cats.
-
thanks for the info. Last year was the first time that i experimented with stink bait, and did not do very well. do you fish it under a float or right on the bottom?
-
I mainly fish it on the bottom, but I have fished it under a float.
-
On the bottom with a 1/2 to 1.5 oz weight, depending on the current. You want it to sit still on the bottom.
-
I will have to give that a try.
I am wondering, are the bass on their beds yet? I am guessing the lower temps over the last couple of days has really slowed them down, but it is supposed to be warming up for the next couple of days.
-
Been on the beds for weeks. The first group moved up about 3 weeks ago and the big ones are there now. Also been getting them on topwater frogs, both buzz and hollow body.
-
I was out this week on pool 14 and did well on channel cats (also caught a bunch of sheepshead too). Is anyone else catching anything in the area? I am hoping to head out this weekend and see what I can do.
-
Not much going on. Cats are biting but that's about it.
-
Well, i have been out of town the last couple of weeks, but plan on heading out somewhere this weekend (if it isnt ungodly hot out). Has anyone been out anywhere lately? Is anyone catching anything?
-
Cats are biting on the river.
-
So, I finally got my turkey this past weekend, and that will free up some time to focus on fishing. Is anyone catching anything around the Quad Cities? I have heard they are catching some channel cats on the river, but that is about it. Anyone else doing any good??

I'd be very surprised if you could find a place to cat fish with the current the way it is.
Yes, the fish just started going again this weekend.
-
Cats are going CRAZY in the lil rivers around the Cities. BBK how you been? I'll PM you when I get a chance.

Been good, catching a few fish but nothing hot and heavy yet.
-
You guys still above water down there. How bad is the Mighty Miss right now?
a foot or two above normal. Nothing to worry about
-
It deffinetly has not killed the fishing for the summer. Made it better if any thing. Was out and saw lots of new habitat. I'll be hittin her hard starting next week.

caught 6 walleyes, 2 would have kept if I wanted them, and about a dozen crappies in the pits north of princeton on the big river. awesome night to be out.
-
had another good day on the river today with a limit of eyes and the biggest drum of my life....i kept her to see for myself what they tasted like. the fillet looked awful next to a pile of walleye sides. slow death hooks on dubuque rigs were the ticket.

What is that?
-
slow death hooks are a special hook that holds a nightcrawler and the hook/crawler spins when trolled and a dubuque rig is a three way set up with, in my case, a main line to a three way swivel, one 12 inch length of line with a 1/2 oz jighead and twistertail going to the bottom, on the last swivel of the three way, a 5 foot length to the slow death hook w/ a crawler.
the dubuque rig is just a three way trolling set up with a big jighead instead of a hookless weight
catches everything in the river including a big ole spoony by a buddy today....snagged and released of course
-
So is anyone planning on going out this weekend? I am sure I will be out (weather permitting), but not sure where I am going to go yet.

I'm not sure, nothing really biting. Might take the boat out and see if the cats are up in the rocks yet.

You been out lately BBK? Tried to PM you but says you are not found in system?
