Title: Umbrella Rigs
Post by: black hills tj on Jul 02, 2012, 10:56 PM
Does anyone troll with umbrella rigs?  If so, what do you fish for?  What do you pull?  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My uncle showed me how to fish with umbrella rigs in saltwater over in Massachusetts, and when I was at Cabela's the other day I saw some downsized umbrella rigs.  Made me wonder if anyone runs them for freshwater.

The ones you saw at Cabala's are called an Alabama rig. It's still an umbrella rig that's casted. Mostly used for bass. I think it would work trolled for northers but you would need to run off a down rigger or something to get it deep enough. Most of the time people run swim baits off of them.

Hey Apple Eye.  I picked up some 3 arm and 5 arm rigs in white and chartreuse to try.  We'll see how they do.
