Title: Leaders for pike
Post by: Mogi on Oct 31, 2013, 03:08 PM
Can anyone share what they use for pike leader. Im not so much intrested in the bite section as mush as the rest of the leader. Would straight 20lb around 4ft long be sufficient. Will a taper help roll over the bigger flies and steel bite section or would it even matter with that short of a leader? Thanks Matt

Ended up a finding a recipe for a 6ft leader consisting of 2ft of 25lb and and 4ft of 20lb. Using a 6in bite bite section.

I'm actually interested in learning to fly fish just so I can catch a pike on the fly. What do you suggest for a set up

I'm using a 9ft 8wt. 6ft leader as mentioned above and the biggest streamers I could find. I'm pretty new to it so I can't give you a great deal of advice. If you look at past threads you'll find a number of posts from members who really know how to target pike on a fly rod

I like to use a 6 to 8 foot leader for pike.  4 feet of 30 lb test and 2 feet of 15 lb test and a very short length of single strand of knotable titanium 10 or 15 lb test.
