Looks like they have it pretty tore up. Hopefully they get it done soon for you. I use to work commercial construction. I don't miss it. I much prefer residential. And I'm my own boss now. Lol.

"Emergency Project"...probably took 2 years to get funding, studies, and permits?  On the plus side it looks like they've brought in what they need to knock it out in short order.

Hey flagged everything out 4 months ago. Needless to say I pulled that round of markers. So, they flagged everything again. I’m tired of mowing around the stupid flags. They aren’t even working on my side of the road.

And ………my brand new car is covered in stone dust.  >:(

Just waited 20 minutes to get back down my street. They’re working at the intersection now. They’re going to bore under Canandaigua road I guess. Also setting a giant cement thing that must be what sits  under a man hole. There’s a ton of equipment over in the plaza parking lot.

Sure hope they use up all the stuff that’s being stored on my lawn pretty soon. I’ve got the only flat lawn on the street.

Pretty nice guys all in all.

The giant concrete thing probably is what is called a man hole, the part you see is just the cover. Or as we have stated calling them, people holes. Got to be p.c. ya know!
Title: Re: OYE!
Post by: rgfixit on Jul 06, 2021, 05:32 PM
Ha! Its one big hole I can tell you. Hope they fill it in soon. We’re down to one lane and that doesn’t work when someone is leaving and someone is coming home.

Neighbor had to park in the plaza parking lot down the street earlier today.

Well they’re still at it. It’s a muddy mess on my street.glad we’re leaving on vacation tomorrow. Should be a lot quieter at the cottage we rented on Keuka Lake.

Hopefully they’ll be done when we come home next Wednesday. Also hope they fix my lawn.

Looks like they’re finally getting close to moving out. They’ve been digging holes,  filling them back in then digging in almost the same spot, then filling it back in. Loading up a big pile of road plates and doing some grading now.

I’ll be waiting to see who does the cleanup and repairs to the road and lawns. They sure tore things up.

Well, they’re still at it.

That’s the end of my driveway they’re removing. They’ve been running mew storm drains. Putting one at the ends of mine and the neighbor’s driveway. I’m pretty happy about that. It’s always been a wet spot..

They’ll be going right across my lawn connecting to another storm drain.

Few more weeks I guess.

Nice, I remember doing those, worked all day then headed out in the evening to help out with a night paving to make sure there weren't any problems and working all night cause there was major problems and being back in the next morning bright and early.

Yeah, I  did out of town overnight for the first 8 years of my final career. Retrofitting lighting in stores, factories, gas stations and such. I finally said no more. I retired 2 years later. I never minded doing it alone or with one of the few good workers he had. But when the owner  sent a bunch of people with me to try and control it was a real pain.

Let’s just say he didn’t hire many good workers. Mostly the bottom of the barrel who would accept the sweat shop wages he paid them.

Working with my Son mowing  the golf course 3 days a week for 4-5 hours is way more enjoyable. He sent me a message the other day saying my fairways looked really good. Said I made him proud. Gotta love it.

Bob, I can come over there and help that project in your front yard get done much quicker!!!😁
I know all about the overnight out of town work. The longest stint out of town was when we worked on the Fastrac stores all over NY. Fun work…. Didn’t care to be away from my family very long.
I’ll be the dumb one and never retire. 😁 I enjoy working and, get to work with my son everyday…bonus!! Josh will be 4th generation carpenter/contractor in our family and has his college degrees to take over our business one day. I will most likely work along with him until my inner guy says enough is enough. Going to be awhile!!!😎

I believe that about you and your son. Kindred spirits I’d say. You,  Josh  and your family are really good people. I’m proud to say I know you all.

Life really IS good!

My advice is …. When it’s time to retire, put together a little shop and make wood toys to sell. You won’t get rich but, I can’t explain how much It enriches my life.

Gives a person a chance to explore the creative side without consequences.

The markets are a great social interaction. Something many retired folks lose sight of. Conversing with total strangers is life enhancing. It’s about being involved…being a part of life.

Boy I sound old.

Title: Re: OYE!
Post by: KingPerch on Sep 17, 2021, 04:00 PM
Thank You for the advice!! I’ll put that into my brain now. I have lots of tools and a big basement to put a shop into. 😁 I also have fly rods in perfect condition that need to be put to the test as well. That will be way sooner than retirement though.

You and Freddie aren’t old, just seasoned is all. I take in all of the advice you guys give out. He’d like to see me retired yesterday. Lol!!

Life is Good!! End of story!!😎

I always enjoyed showing guys the ropes as I was lucky enough to work many different  types of construction and I had many great teachers over the years
Title: Re: OYE!
Post by: rgfixit on Sep 18, 2021, 02:36 PM
I learned a lot from some great old carpenters. The most important thing  was, listen…pay attention. Found out quick that if I didn’t and they knew it, I’d be lead down the Primrose Path. I also learned that devious “Old Man” teaching tactic. And used it many times. Sure was fun when I wasn’t on the receiving end of things.

You’d be a trip on a food truck. I know a market that could use your services.

Glad no one was hurt. I used to see that kind of stuff all the time when I was traveling with the bucket truck. Called 911 more than once.

This time of year stinks for work going everywhere buffalo yesterday Jamestown today heading home to dansville then tomorrow and Thursday 3+ hours up to barns corner's near Adams center ,.. c'mon layoff!!!
Title: Re: OYE!

I lived that life. I did service from Ogdensburg to Binghamton  to Jamestown to Erie….and a lot of work in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Towards the end I also ran crews in 5 states on overnight work. Talk about sleepless nights!

No layoffs for me though. We worked year round.

Today I went fishing for 4 or so hours this morning then came home to warm up. Had a bite to eat and got my tractor ready for leaf pickup. Sharpened and changed the blades, got the bagger on it and mowed/picked up leaves for a couple hours. Then I put the flower boxes away, drained the hoses, put the potted plants away and killed a mouse. (Been after it for a couple weeks…..squished it with the tractor)

I got dinner ready and now I’m having a cocktail with my Bride.

I really don’t know how I ever managed to work and get everything done.
