What kind of bait?
« on: Jun 24, 2006, 01:46 AM »
Now I'm perplexed, I tried corn, a bucktail jig, and tuned tub jigs, but just couldn't get this strange fish to take a bait.  What do you think?

connect a large treble hookon it, and pop it across the surface, like a plug  ::)

Out here weve been catching them on sugar beets too, size 1

Once when I was about 15 years old, my dad and I were hunting ducks on a lake here in PA.  It was also buck season.  About mid morning, we saw something swimming across the lake towards us.  It's about 1/2 mile wide where we were.  When it got close enough, we realized it was a big 10 point buck.  That thing climbed up in the marsh about 30 yards from us and sat down in the reeds.  We had no luck with the ducks so didn't do any shooting.  That deer sat there all the rest of the day and never moved.  Later, we were at the ramp loading up the boat and some deer hunters were around their cars in the lot too.  We asked them how the did.  They told us there were no deer left in the area.  We just kept our mouths shut.

I say one of these swimming towards the South shore of Lake Ontario at Webster, about 0.25 miles from shore. Where the hell did he come from? At least he was headed for the apple trees on shore. Where did you see your creature?

Hinckley Reservoir.  There was a WHOLE lot of watercraft traffic on the lake that day, many without a lick of sense.  My daughter was in the boat and insisted I chaperon the dear across the lake.  The dear had jumped out from on island in the lake and was heading for the mainland.  We rode alongside her until she made the mainland.  2 mph by GPS.  When she hit shore she ran straight up a dirt cliff and I mean cliff.  It was amazing.

they are incredible animals...i mean shoot..anything that can still run a hundred yards with a hole in its heart ...deer dont get enough credit..tough animals for theire size.

oh and as far as bait...we catch a few every year chumming with corn like you do for carp. or using a decoy and spearing them through the ice.

Decoys work great until you have some idiot blow it away with a high powered rifle.
Good thing it was set up 30 yards away from me.
care for a warm up?
