Burbot anyone.
« on: Jul 10, 2006, 10:27 AM »
I'm sick of seeing these walleye (squawfish with a white tip on their tail) dominating that category on the 2006 tourney. Any BC boys want to target some burbot? When are you coming up in August TGF. You bring the card, I bring the beers & etc ;D

I've never caught burbot in the summer, only winter.  How do you guys go after them now, find deep holes?

Yes chillywilly, I am jigging 70 to 126ft of water in holes in front of my cabin. They like the colder water. In spring I catch them much shallower. ;D

I usually catch them in less than ten feet of water in mid to late march here.  I might try to find some this weekend.  I bet they put up a heck of a fight on a spinning rod.

First of all- Congrats on sweeping the walleye off the board.
We don't have any burbot here, and I'm kind of glad.

Second- This is not a gripe, but why are they in the same category?
Any ideas?

I thought you guys were going to kick our arses with 'eyes, but I was wrong.

Had I stayed up north I would have given you a run with eyes. I've seen pics of some 30" plus out of the lake where I got mine. Also more of those 13-14" perch.
TGF! Burbot! Let's go! I gotta get one of them ugly buggers!

Sad for you to have no burbot. We find it a great fish. We don't have any walleye, perch, bass, northern pike, musky, crappie, chain pikeral or blue gills to enter in tourney. So we work with what we have  :-\
No we definately can't kick your arses with eyes but we will in that category ;).
New York will win the state vs state tourney but you guys are real lucky that we have none of the fish previously mentioned. Iceshanty will be a different tourney though and this year BC will beat out New York. Unless the guys that run this tourney drop lake trout from the tourney. But they probably will since BC dominated that category last year and its not in MFF tourney this year.

The burbot are probably in the same category as the walleyes because the world has not saw our big burbot before. They seperated the category on Iceshanty once we started posting our big ones. Last year on MFF I think the biggest burbot was quite small. Good luck to all.
