Are gas prices limiting you fishing?
« on: Jul 25, 2006, 08:19 PM »
I was wondering if you guys were coughing up the cash to go to your favorite destinations, or are the gas prices keeping you close to home. When you figure the cost of filling the tow vehicle and your craft, the price can exceed $150 in a big hurry. Personally I have been sticking closer to home than I have in the past, its a shame.
Have any of you guys tried modifying your truck or boat to achieve better fuel economy? Has anyone traded off their boat or truck for something More economical to operate?

Me either-went from a 15 foot to a 22 foot boat this year.  a man has to have priorities-no matter how much the wife complains!

It's not affecting me, my boat only has a 25hp, and a 6 gallon tank. I can get 2-3 trips per tank so thats not bad. As for the tow vehicle, I work close to my favorite lake, so I just tow it to work and head out form there.

I'm probably guessing correct that fishing is pretty high on all of us members priorities list. And, therefore, we are finding other much less important things to cut back on. (less food for the kids, restrict the wife's massive array of personal care products, perform more "duck tape repairs", etc.)................

Luckily I have 3 things going for me: my truck is pretty good on gas, my boat is good on gas and I live 12 miles from the second biggest lake in Maine.  I fish almost every weekend, but I think if gas was cheaper I would go on more weekend trips up north.  I definitely feel bad for you guys who have to drive a couple hours for decent fishing.

not at all with a little 6hp motor a tank of gas lasts me almost a month.  Its only 3 gallons so I'm not worried about that.

My truck is a different story I only get 14MPG but I'm not going to let it stop me from fishing.  Better to spend money fishing than getting in trouble at the bar.
care for a warm up?

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I've been sticking close to home for the most part due to the floods wiping out the roads to a few of the places I normally fished. I just don't like having to drive twice the distance to get to place than I did earlier in the year.

Luckily for me I still have the Susky right down the street.

I sink about $80 dollar a trip on Lake Ontario.  It is at $3.43 a gal. at my marina and it is not going to stop me from going out.  Fishing is a huge part of my life and these oil companies are not going to ruin it.
