Buck Down!
« on: Sep 20, 2006, 03:37 PM »
I finally scored my first buck!! Not a monster by any means but he's sure going to taste good. We managed to double up and get a doe in the youth season here as well. 1 gun, 2 shots, 2 shooters, 30 seconds, it was all over. Some anile-retentive mod nuked my thread on the BC board so I'm putting it here (hope they don't nuke it here for the anile retentive crack ;D :-\ )

Tenderloins in the pan!  Excellent.

I thought the doe was hit in the head from the first pic?

Naw that was me giving her one more after his shot. She wasn't quite done yet and I hate to see them suffer. We both made perfect shots, only I lost maybe 5-10 lbs of meat out of the shoulder cause he was about 80 feet above me and at a slight quarter away. Bullet went in right where I aimed but came out high on the far shoulder. He only went about 30 yards from where I hit him and the doe didn't even take a step. She just fell off the bank.
At the butcher's now. Sure going to be tasty.

8) :About ten years ago I shot an eleven point 30 inch inside spread 226 pound (field dressed) buck.  This buck also was in full velvet.  When I went to get a shoulder mount done, the taxidermist immediately injected formaldehyde into the antlers.  He said the decay process begins as soon as the animal dies.  We then put it in the freezer uncovered for about a year( the wife loved that).  After the year we than could mount the antler's on the shoulder mount.  If you want to keep the velvet on ,you might want to take care of the this.  nice job and congrats!!!!

Your name's Grump....what the hell man. Take a pill. Where's kyle? LMAO

The velvet is basically gone already. He had started to take it off. It's all bone underneath. I'll see what the taxidermist says. I was just going to take the hide and such off and leather it like we've done with moose but I'll take it to the taxidermist and ask about the velvet. Thnaks

Take a pill old boy. No harm done.
