2 way radios
« on: Jul 11, 2004, 11:11 AM »
Does anybody have any good or bad comments about certain makes of 2 way radios?  I'm looking to get a new pair mostly for fishing and hunting. I'm looking at ones with at least 5 mile range, and over 15 channels. Right now i'm leaning towards the Motorola T5720 GMRS/FRS 2-Way Radio.  Any other suggestions? ???

I've got the Motorola T5700, and have used it for about a year.  Works good, but the range is affected by terrain and buildings, so 5 miles is probably only over water.  Only time I got close to that on land is when I called home from a buddies 9th floor apartment.  Then it was directly line-of-sight, and no problem.

Bean, don't forget that you need a license to operate the GMRS radios. It's no big deal but you still need it. My advice is if they are to be used mainly for fishing, a couple of handheld VHS radios would be better. They will give you the security of the weather  and Coast Guard channels.
