Title: Just throwing an idea around...
Post by: taxid on May 19, 2022, 04:58 PM
Anybody ever leave a boat in storage at an annual vacation destination, then just fly out the next year, and rent a vehicle with a hitch? I'm considering this in the future.
The only downside is some of the storage rates are little high in Mass. Might end doing it in Maine as I've enjoyed the fishing up there.

If Mass it would probably be only for Quabbin.

The wife and I rented an Airbnb for a week one year in Mass on a private lake. We flew out and back and it was a lot more fun than driving 15 hours there and back. Only down side was I missed having my own boat.

Cost you a few hundred bucks to have your boat freighted out and back.  Easier to fish venues where you can rent a boat (quabbin being one of them)

Yeah but I don't have all my gadgets on a rental boat, but maybe I don't need them.  Quabbin rental is quite reasonable and I have done it before.

Back in the day Id bring a couple drift socks, stern mounted trolling motor and battery and a cheap humminbird unit with a suction cup transducer mount.  It was enough to make the rental boat more fun and effective to use.

Did something similar on a Northern Maine lake (Lake Nahmakanta) once with a camp boat. Clamp on fish finder and downrigger. Crazy thing was couldn't get a hit with the downrigger, but lead core with the same Mooselook wobbler spoon was the ticket.
