schoolies are in
« on: Apr 27, 2010, 05:22 AM »
took the boat out for a shakedown cruise yesterday for a few hours between 1 and 430. managed two in the providence river. lots of bait but not alot of fish biting. the 2 that we did catch were very fat. forgot the camera again by i'll be out there again soon. got 1 on a small deep diving minnow lure and the other on a zoom fluke albino plastic fished on a 1/4 oz jig.

That's what I figured someone would say.  I've never fished for them anywhere else.

Schoolies are being caught in Cape Canal now, thru RI and south. I have not heard of any being caught north of Cape yet. Hold overs are around if you want to chase them, nothing exciting though for size.  Usually every year in May I get my first keeper of the year. Sometimes 1st to 2nd weekend, most times 2nd - 3rd weekend in May, then it's on till Oct.  8)

i was painting on monday 2 weeks ago, right on the canal entrence on the bourne side, i saw alot of bird action and wished i could be out there in it instead of painting a deck.
id rather catch nothing by myself than alot in a crowd.
