Been tying some soft hackles for gills next spring.

Some of my favorites.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

They look great. I'm working on some Gartside Gurglers today.

Pictures please!
Ice fished today and 90% of my fish came on my scud pattern as a dropper. I enjoyed that.

Here's a few pics.  I primarily use them for striped bass but the sky is the limit, could pose as a mouse for trout or they  make a good river smallmouth fly. I attached the You Tube Video I'm using to replicate.

Panfish love flies. On my one and only ice fishing trip this year, the bluegill loved the size 14 Frenchie.

Yup...those would do the trick. I could see them I a #10-12 for gills. May have tied something similar I think.

Working on some more scud patterns. Have to post pics later. My son stopped for a visit and we got distracted.

Nice tip on the rolling fabric cutter.....I have a couple rolls of golf tape tried  a few with and didn't  like.  Great ties everyone!!  Hope I can get in the mood to tie some soon.

Takes a little finesse or patience I guess. I’ve gotten used to it for building a profile and adding weight to certain flies. The roller cutter is key for sure. That thing comes in handy for a whole bunch of applications.

Like anything else...practice makes perfect.

I can see the possibilities.  I actually bought one for my wife a few weeks back.  She's taken up quilting as a winter activity.  Not your average pizza cutter for sure........

Don’t let her catch you stealing it to tie flies.....

I’ve taken a lot of pleasure from my fly bench this winter. Getting lost in working on a new patterns very much like fly fishing itself..

Not a chance.  i at least know where to get myself one. lol  I started doing little stained glass projects with some of her stuff last year about this time and it's morphed into a "Honey, can you make this for....." ongoing thing.  Doing a few "commissioned" works too,    In addition to icefishing I took a part time job to get some exercise and get me off "the hill" a few days a week.  Puts gas in the truck and I've lost twenty pounds.  Back to tying some stuff up soon.  Still some winter to go.........

Good for you! My part time hours have been cut way back. Whenever the store gets slow like this time of year, part timers are the first to take the hit. Not that I mind all that much. I miss the people more than the job.

Anyway it gives me more bench time. Decided to practice some of the classics
 Pt nymphs and Zug Bugs.

The nymphs on the right are done with turkey back feather. I actually like it more than pheasant.

Finally found a “Squishy Ball”.

Tied up some squishy worm soft hackle bead head things.

Pure experimentation, but, they could actually work......I think.

“Greenie Weenie” eh? I was thinking gills and or crappies with these. Tied a few more this afternoon on a longer 200r nymph hook. Worked out how to attach the “worm” without thread wraps.

You can see the first two on the left have thread wraps. The other 4 don’t.

Also added a dubbed collar before the soft hackle.

The evolution of a fly.

I still think they’ll work.
