See the gap between the mount posts, where the transducer connects to the mount? That gap creates a huge roostertail from the humminbird puck. They give out, at least used to, free rubber plug that would fit in that gap and prevent the roostertail.
Once the roostertail issue is addressed the water will then spray your motor on the side. Thats where the spray guard comes in.
