Circle hooks for trout.
« on: Jul 06, 2006, 12:22 AM »
I have a few tiny circle hooks in blood red, are circle hooks a good hook for trout? :-\

The trout I am thinking of are rainbows, browns and brookies.

I use them when I am throwing out bait for rainbows.  I like to ice-fish using circle hooks as well.  I have not used circle hooks for the other trout that you mentioned but I found that circle hooks work really well when the fish are biting very light.  I hope this helped a bit, but I would definitely reccomend giving it a try.  8)

I like them as they are easy to remove. If you are catch and release fisherman they are better since they tend to hook the fish in the corner of the lip. I also feel like you dont need to set the hook hard just steady pressure and they almost self set. Just my 2 cents. By the way I only use them ice fishing with tipups. I plan on trying them on browns using shiners soon:)
