Win Some, Lose Some
« on: Nov 04, 2023, 05:24 PM »
I got out on the South Hoosic in Adams for about 45 minutes after work yesterday.

It was clear, but approaching dusk, and only about 50 degrees.

Skunked - - nothing from Mullen Mayfliower to Dry Brook.

After foraging with some friends in the morning - - no mushrooms, but we scored some mint, watercress and ramp bulbs - - I gave it a try at Fish Pond (Windsor Lake) in North Adams this afternoon, and did a bit better.

During a little over two hours, I caught four cookie cutter (12" to 13") rainbows.

While I was there, though, there was an 8 year old kid with  his grandfather who absolutely slayed them (must have caught close to 20) on a mix of worm, power bait and spoons.

The resident bald eagle also made an appearance (twice) while I was there.

Afterward, I returned home for a cookout (lamb chop, deluxe salad, homemade kimchi, hotch potch stew and a bottle of Guinness), and them racked a carbuoy of black raspberry wine that I'm hoping to bottle tomorrow or the next day.

A good afternoon. Do you ever have mint jelly with your lamb?

Yes, usually either mint jelly or a caper sauce (both homemade by my wife), but I didn't have any on hand, so I had to make do with sriracha sauce.

Do you know how many resteraunts we go to and order lamb ,we ask if they have mint jelly and they look at you cockeyed. They never heard of it being used with lamb.

Like the song says, "how bizarre, how bizarre."

Seriously, though, you're lucky to even find a restaurant that offers lamb on the menu in the first place.

Well, in that respect, you're lucky.  (I wish we had more of them up my way).

Although that might also explain why "no mint jelly" - - I don't think they use it.
