Last ditch.
« on: Nov 12, 2011, 05:06 PM »
Season goals were a laker, land lock, and a tiger. Only got the tiger. Anyone meet their goals? Anyway I'm headed to Wachusett Reservoir tomorrow for most likely one last attempt for a laker this season. Me and my buddy will be out there if anyone else is planning on going. Any tips? Probably be using shiners.

try a crocadile. then you can pick up all the species, i hear alot more people catching trout on those then shiners. they drop alot on live bait

I have done well on lakers from shore casting a Little George, They cast a mile, fish deep, don't hang up easy and the spinning blade brings them in!

Yeah we used shiners the last time we were there and only got bites when slowly reeling in to check our baits.  Kind of like Carolina rigging for bass.  My friend and I both switched to spoons and started getting bit more frequently.

Got one. After two consecutive weekends I landed my first ever laker. Had a good size one on, about four pounds and lost it on shore trying to land it without a net. About 20 mins later another one hit in the same area, a bit smaller at 20 inches. Fished shiners on the bottom. Moving them around often so they couldn't hide in between small rocks.
