Been playing with a bluegill pattern. Worked pretty well this morning.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

A red glass bead and UV resin.

Adds some color and a tiny bit of weight.

Looks great!  I've never used the resin, have to give it a try one of these days.

Don’t pay the extra bucks for Loon or Solarez.  You can buy craft UV resin for a lot less on eBay. Don’t buy their overpriced UV light either. Get one in the 365-405nm range on eBay as well. I coat the finished head with Sally Hanson Hard as Nails topcoat. Seems to stay glossy better that way. If you warm the resin a bit in a glass of hot water it thins down and is easier to work with. I have a scented wax heater base that I stole from my Bride. I put a glass of warm water on it and it keeps it just right when  I’m tying.

Fun stuff to play with.

Appreciate the advice.  Part of my hesitation has been a belief that a lot of that stuff is hyped and over priced.

Well, I wouldn’t be without it on my bench. It produces some really cool effects with just a drop. Worth playing with.
I’ll have to get out some of the ice flies I tied using UV. You can color it if you want to waste some. There are powder dyes out there. I’ve been thinking about trying some of the UV cure nail polishes for color.

No....not on my nails.  :D

I also thought about adding some of the glow in the dark powder paint I have to a bit to see if it glows.

Fly tying.....its a bottomless pit of options.

I’ve visited that site more than once looking for new ideas. Found a few there.

How’s your fly tying coming along? Did you get a vise yet?

Don’t need to buy too much Trap. It lasts a long time. I think I’ve been using the same 4oz bottle for more than 5 years now.
