I hiked into Glasgow pond (1.4 miles one way) in the Southern Adirondacks this afternoon after work. I tried fishing the creek and the pond. Although I saw fish, I did not catch any. :P
The trail in is an old tote road up to the pond. It was really washed out.

Its neat, on the way near the pond, is some old foundations of houses from over 120 years ago.

Someone has recently been metal detecting and digging around the foundations

This is why I hate people, they leave crap like this way back in

Many views of Glasgow pond. I did see fish but they just were not biting.

I found where some animal, either skunk or raccoon, found some turtle eggs, dug them up and ate them.

Here is the old foundation of the old mill that use to make broomsticks if I remember my history right.

Don't ever touch my Rock Bass :clapping:
-
Great pictures, keep them coming. Trying to convince the wife we need to move up there, but finding jobs in the area isn't an easy thing to do.
-
rockbass and fallfish, I can't imagaine a much better one-two combination! Great pics!

It's Jessup river time! Took a little canoe trip up the river for some trout. The river was down about 2-3 feet. No trout were caught but we did have a fawn jump in the river, chase our canoe, jump back out of the river, run around us, jump back into the river and swim down stream in front of the canoe for about a half mile. Lots of deer and bear tracks in the mud and sand along the river banks.
Self portrait!

The river was really low:

I tried to get a picture of the deer swimming in front of us but he was about 100 yards down stream from us.

My brother in law and I took my father in law's radison. Did not realize the river was so low. left some paint on some rocks in the river.

Hiked into 2 ponds in the southern adirondacks today. Tried fishing both. Over all an 8 mile round trip. No fish were caught. :P
Funny posted sign near the trail head.

This is what makes me a grumpy old man. I hate people that just leave their trash out in the woods. If the idiots can haul it in, then they sure as heck can haul it out.

The beavers have patched up the hole in the old dam thus raising the water level back up.

at 3.8 miles from the trail head, I found where some one lost part of their atv even though atv's are not allowed on forest preserve land.

Unfortunately, :-\ you can see how people have broken into the cabin many times:
This is where I turned around and walked back. The last mile back to the trail head I got caught in a down pour.
Over all a great hike.

Great pics of a good hike! Thanks! 8)
The trash thing p!sses me off, too. Some people just don't get it!!! >:(
-
Great pics! It's unfortunate about the trash! I'd guess bear poo.
-
Great pictures ADK... Trashy people leave trash behind....

Hiked in to Jockeybush Lake in the Adirondacks this morning before the big rains to do a little fishing. Sally Beagle came with me to keepme company.
These are Emerald Ash Borer traps the state put up to monitor the spread of this invasive bug.
It says 1.1 miles to the lake but that is to the outlet. You need to walk another .25 to get to deeper swimmable, fishable water.

When we got to the outlet of the lake, sally wanted to get a drink but ended up getting stuck in the mud:

I recommend crossing over the old beaver dam at the outlet and staying on the north side. nice fisherman's path that leads to a campsite and some rock out crops and deeper water.

Its a pretty easy hike. Met a guy on the trail much older than me carrying a canoe into the lake to fish. Made me wish I had brought one.

Unfortunately, there is way more junk up on some of these ponds than I could carry out. :P Its a product of illegal atv use on state land.

Cool thread Roy, thanks for sharing your pictures. I have always wanted to do some easy hikes in the ADK. But have no idea where to start. We are going to be in Old Forge just after Labor Day for a friends wedding. Any suggestions for a 3 to 4 hour hike nearby for me, my wife and 16 y.o. Daughter? We are looking for something to do between the grooms dinner and the wedding.
-
Bald mountain, or moss lake circuit. Those are two very nice hikes in the oldforge area.
-
Like ADK said Bald Mountain is awesome... You get to climb the fire tower... Another good one close by is Rocky MT... In between Eagle Bay and Inlet...
-
We hiked the Bald Mt trail, perfect for us and several other of the wedding guests. It was such a nice day for it, bright sunshine and cool in the shade. Except for locking the keys in the trunk of our car, we really could not have asked for a better time. Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm calling you out ADK Roy! Money's tight and the weather hasn't cooperated so we haven't been able to get to the great Adirondacks. Once those baby eating bugs are gone and school's done for the year, I'm expecting to see some new pics! :D
