Title: Bigredfishing's angling adventures- <8/20> bass, cats (pg 19)
Post by: bigredfishing on Mar 14, 2006, 11:30 PM
Well I'm starting off this year's open water angling adventures just like last years, with pond carp.  My buddy Jon convinced me that carp would bite in late winter during a snowstorm with heavy winds at night.  Well...he was right, they did.  For our hour of effort, we  caught one each that fought hard enough to tangle our rods each time  :D

Very nice! Neither rain nor snow nor dark of night will stop you from hooking up with old bugle mouth.

Man, Bigred, you are hardcore! Fishing for carp in a snowstorm at night might even top your office pond fishing story -- no fish is safe when Bigred's awake!

Congrats on catching some early season fish, under tough conditions, too.  I don't think that I've ever caught a carp, but it sounds like they are good fighters, eh?

I wonder if the whiskers are moving around in the river yet?

A couple of slimers is a nice way to get the bends out of the line.

Thanks for the nice words everyone ;D

Bigred: How about some recipes ,what's your favorite way to cook them? :D

I've found the best way is to nail them to a pine board, season to preference, cook at 350 for 1 hour, throw out the fish, eat the board :D

I wonder if the whiskers are moving around in the river yet?

Jon has been out for them a few times and hasn't gotten anything yet.  I'm guessing its gonna take 40+ degree water to get them moving

Just make sure you don't throw back a state record this year.

Oh man...there's no way we're going to let that happen again :o

Post by: bigredfishing on Mar 20, 2006, 11:13 AM
Got a tip from Dwaytkus that the bullheads were running up by him, so my buddy Jon and I decided to take a swing up there for a few hours fishing.  We didn't get into them good until around 6:30 and from then till 8 they came pretty steady. All our fish were caught on shrimp.

Nice catch Bigred!!! You said you caught all those fish on shrimp? Never heard of anyone using shrimp for the heads before. Is it the shrimp in the little bottle??? I usually just use worms or chicken liver. Thinking of trying  to get out one of these nights it might be a little too early here though.

I finally gave up on ice fishing and put the gear away.  It was time for some spring run Lake Ontario trout.  I went out to Western New York with a couple of my buddies, with Scott playing the role of guide.  He sure put us on some fish  ;D.  It was also great fishing both weekend days and not seeing just about any other anglers on our water.  With the exception of some suckers (catfish bait), all of our fish were released.

The water was awefully clear in the small creeks we were fishing. The fish were very spooky, and holed up under the cutbanks.  I found that a light fluorocarbon leader helped a bit, but it made it next to impossible to land anything of decent size with all of the wood cover in the creek we were fishing.  Most of my fish came on egg fly patterns.

Here is Ryan hooked up with the biggest fish that we saw on the trip, a VERY large steelhead.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01447_Small.jpg&hash=45739f8b615fd204a47e010ddc115234)

unfortunately for Ryan, the fish beat him in a race downstream.

Here's a neat action sequence with Scottie showing us how to do it.  Notice he is wearing shorts and sneakers - no waders.  It was only 45 degrees out, folks  :cookoo:

Hooked up and running after it

It was a great opening weekend. ;D  First off, check out this monster bass my buddy caught in a little tiny pond fishing for carp with corn.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2F100_0127_editedrs.jpg&hash=2d5e32eb73fb97a3a7d42029084cb64f)

6lbs, 21.5 inches...it was released.

Fished opening day hard, starting REAL early in the morning.  Got two nice browns for the effort, 15", 17.5"

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01469_editedrs.jpg&hash=da75316696fbc71c84c9b27bc6e4d6d1)

Check out the color of the flesh

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01475_editedrs.jpg&hash=09d23e3d84b65b9448238ab7bb5d8963)

They were DELICIOUS!!

On Sunday, it was out to western ny for some trout and suckers.  We started in the morning for steelhead, and we saw a TON caught, but I could only manage to land one 'bow.  Scotty caught one also, and all of us had a number of hookups.  This rainbow was caught on a trout worm under a float. It was released

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2F100_0131fixed_editedrs.jpg&hash=7c68504ac6478ab7edf3715663905462)

That afternoon Scotty told us the suckers were running - he wasn't kidding either, in 2 hours time we cleaned house, filling our five stringers...we couldn't fit another one in the cooler - we got catfish bait! ;D 48 total.  They are all in my bait freezer.

It is not polite to name names when it comes to pictures on this site :-X. If someone wants everyone to know where they fish, then that person will name the spot in the original post ;)

Pikeguy,

I respect the privacy of secret spots.  Big Red can attest to that.  You obviously aren't familiar with The body of water i am refering to.  The Genesee River is one of Lake Ontario's largest tributaries and is smack dab in the middle of a metropolitan area with a population of around 1 million.  It has public access and is far from a spot that can deemed 'secret'.

Feel free to PM Big Red so no one will ever know about the Genesee River shhhhh!!

Hey Red! Nice fish!!! I recognized the smaller creek you boys did well on...I've fished it before. Don't worry....I ain't talkin!!!  As far as the suckers for Catfish bait...my Son and I have been thinking about stocking up on some this year myself. Do you freeze them whole so many to a bag and then cut chunks when you fish? Or do you chunk them up first? Are you particular about how you freeze them or just freezerbag them etc.? Any info would be appreciated....WK

I freeze the fish whole, these bigger ones I've just been wrapping in small garbage bags. Freezing them whole seems to keep them fresher alot longer.

The picture taker was standing on the waters edge.  The fish was held with wetted hands and released unharmed.   It was held out of the water less then 30 seconds...and it was a cold day.   Again, it was caught with corn while fishing for carp.

I got alot of fishing in this weekend.  I was able to work out 5 separate trips.  On Friday night, I ran out to a nearby trout stream after work for the non-existent post-rain bite.  Got nothing ??? not even a nibble.

Saturday morning my buddy Scott joined me for some stream trout fishing.  The target was some bigger browns for dinner on a creek that I had never fished through before, and had not yet been stocked. The creek was bankfull so the waders were left at the truck and we stayed on the bank.  We lucked out and did not see any other anglers all morning ;D. We worked over some pools for the majority of the morning with no bites...on the way back to truck we hit a few other spots real quick.  Scotty found the fish.   First was this 19" Brown (https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01490_edited.jpg&hash=8e4dc52c7ff6c6171be4b86ce6e95fd8)

The fish took his time coming in, and with the heavy current was quite the tussle for Scott even with an 8lb setup.

On the way up to the next hole, a hellgrammite crawled out of Scott's trout's throat.  He hooked the thing up, and sure enough, on his first cast at the next hole, Scott got an even bigger trout.  20"

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01492_edited.jpg&hash=24234774db19039d22b63143aefb566c)

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01493_edited.jpg&hash=bf9a776a33804cd7210e894c1877ccd8)

The fish put up an amazing battle, taking drag and jumping.

We got the thing into the net, and there was line everywhere.  Apparently this  holdover (fin clipped) had broken some people off before.   First was a rusty hook sticking out of the fishes butt, with a swivel lodged in the fishes intestine, and about 5 feet of line coming out of the fish's mouth.  Second was a newer hook that was lodged firmly in the fish's tongue, with about 3 feet of ragged line trailing it. Crazy fish! :o

Awesome color on the fish's flesh
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01503.jpg&hash=5e65b03bfc6e7ff6c8833e67907a0f22)

Well we knocked off about noon, with Scotty catching all the fish. ::)  In the afternoon, I got the boat running with my buddy Jon's help, and then we hit up the ole' catfish hole.  Five minutes in and Jon nails this fat cat.

30" 14lbs 2oz.  Not a bad way to start the season! ;D
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01504_edited.jpg&hash=dc3554811e640b458e85570299f15927)

a short while later a nailed this solid 8lb 27" female channel cat.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01508_edited.jpg&hash=bca05e159dabbfe99ccfce21946a0d08)

the next morning I headed off to a pond near my buddy Brian's house.  Our aim was trout, so we started drifting with lake clears and spinner rigs. After a number of passes we failed to elicit not one single strike.   We then decided to throw some jigs and hope to pick up a crappie or two.  As we worked our way around the pond, I set into a solid fish.  It ended up being a nice brownie.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01510_edited.jpg&hash=d61993be14109eac12fa811f3a40a60f)

We ended up getting some crappies, but they were small.  Brian did get this really nice pickerel

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01513_edited.jpg&hash=f340c1812fa50fd2f6f336db6d425369)

That evening it was back to catfishing with one exception, the cats never showed up :-\

Hey Lance,

This is Brian, Jon's friend.  Looks like you got the Lund all de-winterized (thats one hell of a cat Jon caught there).  I just set up this account a few days ago.

BTW, I posted pics of my new boat (sans electronics and trolling motor, which will be done tomorrow) on the "let's see your boat" thread.  We'll have to meet up so I can pay you back for that night you took me out catfishing.

Tight Lines!

I'm love this time of year.  With the time change, I've been getting WAY more on the water time. Just wish the trout would bite ::)

Anyway.  Last week I got out to Saratoga with my buddies Jon and Kyle for some bullheading.  The wind sucked but we eventually found a small school of biters that were taking crawlers.  We ended up with twenty something

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01514.jpg&hash=f104f9da9cc34b858dd345b6fcf03426)

some nice ones too (caught by Kyle) Yellow bullhead in the front, Brown bullhead in the back

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01516.jpg&hash=7c605d008c5c042411c8b180c8b8bf22)

Evil Kyle

Skinning sucks but man they taste good

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01518.jpg&hash=453d5ef7eaed7018c6edfa90e3af4f9c)

Went out one evening for cats, didn't get any, but Jon got this giant crappie (14.5" - released)

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2F100_0160.jpg&hash=84477970074698ce6b69c20cdef3486d)

Started out the weekend with a little mixed bag fishing.  Started out for panfish, got into a bunch of crappies (released) All of the crappies we caught (30) came from one single sunken bush,  and the fish would hit even with the boat directly on top of them :o

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01520.jpg&hash=c8811c60b9e05b21470d870e7a0a5882)

Then we got some bass and carp, then mixed it up with some nice catfish (also all released)

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01525.jpg&hash=2259e427b131ff300f8d1cb6367b23ed)

Next morning and it was trout time...except there was no trout to be found.  We did find some suckers though.
The fish were actively spawning.   Their colors were amazing

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01530.jpg&hash=e90a0082431422f89f7fa84263860be4)

I kept a few to use as fresh bait for the evening's catfishing. The interesting part was that as soon as they were put on the stringer, they changed their color back to the normal white sucker coloration.

The cats were biting later that evening as we caught 10 cats, all of which were over 10lbs.

The interesting part was that as soon as they were put on the stringer, they changed their color back to the normal white sucker coloration.

Cuz they knew right then they would not be getting laid.....NICE cat man, I could not have held back keeping at least a fishfry's worth of crappie  ;D

OK,  those pictures will now make me get my boat out. A week and a half of the flu and I'm way behind schedule. Looks like there's some striper activity on the river too.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.  I haven't been too busy on here, as I have been fishing just about everyday...Lots of catch and release pannies and perch...some hiking around the 'pond' looking for new walleye spots...all kinds of fun ;D  I did do some trout fishing this weekend.  With all the rain, I figured the trout would be ON the bite...they weren't in the rivers I was fishing.  Saturday was the better day of fishing...Jon and I both got two.  Jon got the little stocky and the nice 15" wild brown.  I caught a small stocky myself which I released, and caught a nice 16" holdover brown.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01556.jpg&hash=0a9498b25e0ddc6e1d8c08e4601de91a)

On Sunday I hit up the creek by myself, and the conditions were perfect.  The water was rising and getting more discolored by the minute...normally THE MOST productive time to fish a creek for big trout...but NOT Sunday.  I fished my BUTT off all day in the d**n pouring rain for one 12" holdover trout that jumped out of the net before I could even snap a pic.  Oh well ::)

fished some other places the last few evenings...all I can say is that if any of you guys live near a pond with rainbows in it...go there now and shore cast with some spinners...WOW.

Hey bigredfishing! I see you have been doing a bang up job fishing these past few weeks!!! Way to go!! I have a few questions for you concerning your statement on fishing any pond with rainbows in it with spinners as I live near such a spot...what weight do you recommend ( in oz. ) what are your favorites and what conditions do you favor ( mornings, evenings, sunny, overcast, wind against or away from shore, etc. ). I pretty much know what to do and have appropriate tackle. I have a wide range of rods in various actions and a megaton of roostertails, martins, mepps, vibrax, etc. in various weights. I figure a 6' light action rod and a quality reel spooled with 6lb. test and 1/8 to 1/4 oz. spinners fits the bill... but any info from a knowledgable fisherman as yourself would be appreciated...WK

You got it pretty much dead on.  I like to use rooster tails specifically in still water...White, yellow, and trout color are my favorite...I like the 1/4oz and one size bigger models.  With the bigger size you get a bit more casting distance, and it entices larger fish....but smaller ones still hit those bigger sizes.  Spoons also work well too.  Phoebes and krocs are two good choices, phoebes in any size, and krocs in the 1/4 oz range are about right.

In terms of weather, I like cloudy, spitting rain for the best bite...but I have done well under blue skies.  Anything else let me know

Try some panther martins...the way to go.  Better spin and vibration!   ;)  I like the pink rainbow colored blades (and so do the trout).  Beetle-spins are pretty good too!

It was about time we got some great weather on a weekend, and boy was it great!!  I fished for panfish both days this weekend.

On Saturday, I fished with Dwaytkus out of his awesome 16' tracker.  Our target was some tasty big bluegills.  We started out working some wood areas for crappies, with luck.  I noticed a guy flipping some bass jigs, I asked him if that was what the crappies were after...he replied "YEP!! Spinnerbaits too!".  Yeah.  :P

Anyway. We drifted over some large weed flats for a good amount of time without so much as a hit.  From there we hit up a shallow slough with water temperatures pushing 60 degrees.  Every cast we made would spook fish out...big fish tool, but we just could not get them to bite.  Then people moved in on us, and started to crowd us out.  We ended up getting some gills for our troubles, but left everyone else to fish on top of each other.  From there we decided to stay away from the crowds and just drift along the shore. That was the ticket!!  We ended up catching a ridiculous amount of sunfish...and were able to cull our limit of 15 each up to all Big 'gills over 8.5".  Curious thing about the fish was that the pumpkinseeds have almost no meat across their back, so we concentrated on just keeping gills.

here's some pics of our fish

colorfull 'seed

Sunday I got out with Jon for some more Panfish.  We did not get started till later in the afternoon. we concentrated more on drifting the breaks then Saturday and ended up with quite the mixed bag.  We started about 4pm and fished for pannies till about 7.  From then we fished for bullheads till 9pm.

I ended up catching a MONSTER yellow bullhead (white chin barbels).  This thing went 14.75 inches, and weighed in at slightly over 2lbs!!!

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01576.jpg&hash=6741a65a90f0b6107c53c11673175d81)

Big 'ol mixed mess of fish

There is 7 bullheads, 5 crappies and 14 bluegills in there.

I ended up catching 9 species of fish on Sunday from the same body of water

Bluegill, pumpkinseed, crappie, yellow perch, brown bullhead, yellow bullhead, smallmouth, largemouth, pickerel ;D  I fished with the same two things all weekend...worms or 1/32oz jigs.

I squeezed alot of fishing in this weekend  ;D

Saturday morning I headed out for some walleyes...I ended up catching one keeper, and losing another one at the boat (didn't have the net ready :pinch: )  Also had a very big largemouth to the boat, lost him too  :-\  Ended up making a few casts for panfish to round out lunch.  Ended up with some nice crappies.  They made an awesome lunch. ;D

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01586rs.jpg&hash=f13a9e39fd452736a1a229fff18811e7)

Headed out that evening with Bartman for some shore casting walleyes...Bart had me with his 3 short eye's to my one white perch  ::)

Sunday morning saw me out on the lower Hudson with Brian in my boat showing me how he striper fishes, and fishing along with Striper716 and his bro in their boat.  We got an early start, and I couldn't believe there was not another boat out for the early bite.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01588.jpg&hash=4e38f4d0b48ecc26c6b7675f472a8983)

I got into one pretty quick...great fight

17lbs

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01591_edited.jpg&hash=14dcf7693de3d220e6fe9aa11a3034bb)

About mid morning this one came to play. 16lbs

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01597_edited.jpg&hash=c4c1ffbbeee2bf2c9d61c8f4fc8f2b14)

another angle

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01599_edited.jpg&hash=4aeede837cbde9c6c02a292af8270fdf)

Later in the afternoon, I got this smaller one, and had one to the boat just like it -12lbs

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01600_edited.jpg&hash=5d3f00728c9fe475ccea7cf71aaf178d)

The first fish was kept, the rest were released unharmed.  All the fish were caught drifting herring along the bottom.  Brian had a tough day, with just a few runs, and no fish.  Striper176 got some nice ones, and I believe they did well in a tourney too... ;)

I was out just a little while ago netting up some herring, and met up with my buddy Jon.  We ended up putting out cat rods for 30 minutes, and in that time we caught 5 cats up to 10lbs.  No pics though :(

Hmm...thats a good one.  I have never eaten catfish, but the bullheads are pretty good.  These ones were starting to get mushy though, so that is probably the last mess of them until next spring

I use "bullfrog" stuff...it comes in a silver bottle, and is alchohol based.  When you put it on, its like the alchohol based hand wash...it goes on cool, and there is absolutely no greaseyness at all....plus, if I put too much on, I get a hell of a buzz from the fumes LOL  ;D

you should quit your day job & start a quide service.Keep'm comin gj

I keep thinking about it GJ...its just awefully hard to turn a profit at guiding while trying to pay off school loans.

I've got some more striper pics here.  Bartman and I went our earlier this week for a few hours in the morning.  We were in his boat, and he was showing me how he fishes stripers.  We got anchored up, and Bart let me have the first run.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01609_edited.jpg&hash=23c819620597172b27538c41e39bf2f4)

He ended up letting me take the majority of our runs, and I ended up with 5 fish up to 16lbs...no sows, but the chunky schoolies are plenty of fun.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01610_edited.jpg&hash=ece230fddd71c256d1cf018b424b00ae)

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01613_edited.jpg&hash=da29519b2a458cf297cf09bee49a89cd)

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01618_edited.jpg&hash=3e95b294f9288fd4118b7f0612fa6d57)

Bart continued fishing after I had to leave to get to work...He ended up catching that hog 43" that is in his picture thread later that day.

All the fish were taken of dead whole herring on the bottom.

Even with all this rain, I think I am going to give the river a shot in the AM.  Striper176 is going to be out there at midnight!  Crazy dudes!

Hey brf. I assume you released the Stripers...that's good. But have you ever kept one to eat? They're very good fixed in any number of ways because they're a white flesh. A friend of mine that grew up on Long Island called them " The chicken of the sea"...I believe he was right!!!! I'm not trying to offend anyone, but I would not have a problem keeping one of the smaller ones for a griller..........WK

Nice fish Red!  Can't wait for those to make it up here in Maine.  We're catching them now, but much smaller "schoolies".  It won't be long before those big one get here!  I got into striper fishing about 8 years ago and hardly ever freshwater fish anymore (except through the ice).  Stripers are a blast to catch and eat well too!  Hope I post some pics like those soon!  Tight Lines, Mike

I didn't keep any for myself last week - I always assumed they tasted like white perch  but I have recently been informed differently.  I have every intention of keeping the very next striper I catch ;D

Let me know ;D FYI I have been told that this weekend might be the last shot at good numbers fish around here for this year.

oh its just because I think they taste like crap!  All the ones that I have ever had I cleaned and cooked like and do everything else, but they came out tasting pretty d**n bad.

Here I was all gung ho for stripers and we got rain...lots of it too.  Tried the river like heck on Saturday without so much as a hit, so it was 'eyes on Sunday.  Got out with Brian and we hit up a great early morning spot, just to get blanked...no eyes but a few bass...hit up spot #2...no eyes, more bass - getting to be a pattern here.  Of course it is POURING OUT!!  Finally we hopped over to one last spot, and got two mid day eyes. 17.25", 17.75"

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01621_edited.jpg&hash=efcd292ce10598e1e27ee642af429d49)

Sunday evening went back out with my buddy Carl. We were trying a new spot, and he ended up outfishing me. He caught 3 eyes to my one, including 2 keepers, 1 of which was a very large fish for the body of water.

Carl's big 'eye - 23"

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01624_edited.jpg&hash=73e7acf2c3756e65a731390a0c8481b9)

last night's keep 15", 17.5", 23"

Got out this evening for some more shore casting for eyes, covering more new water.  The smallies were biting early.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01629_edited.jpg&hash=ff24ecf127eab00403a5f7bb68bf9d62)

Just as it was getting REAL dark, I ended up nabbing a keeper eye, 16.5"

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01636_edited.jpg&hash=40539d2aa1a76395013be73a259b4258)

All the walleyes were caught on a jig and grub, and the last couple trips they all bit within a few feet of shore.

Hey Red. You won't be disappointed with the taste of Stripers. Try em' broiled or grilled...great. I have to agree with you on the White perch...we kept some to try one time while staying on Champlain for a week and like I said, we tried them ONE TIME! My son and I fished for Browns yesterday and had a great day. We caught fish nice fish through the day and kept a few for the smoker.  The biggest of the three we kept was a fat 17" fish. The reason why I mention this is that reminds me of one of your earlier posts....when I got ready to fillet them.... the bigger fish had a 3" hellgramite crawl out of his throat while I was putting the blade to him. The rest of his stomach was packed with crawfish from 1-3"......WK 8)

Its been awhile since I've posted some pics, so I've got a few here.

We'll start with some stripers from the last two weeks (mostly caught by bassinbrian) All fish were caught in the Hudson north of Catskill...all on herring on the bottom.

I don't remember the measurement's on these fish...but they ranged from 10lbs - 16lbs

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01646.jpg&hash=f5a72a26cfa7ee5cbcc574049f87356c)

These last 2 fish were caught within a 4 minute span, that saw us hooking up 4 times...including a double header that didn't pan out :-\ All of this was on one tiny submerged point on the river.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01653_edited.jpg&hash=25864c42563b61e314fa6e9e9292d90a)

Last Saturday we were at the Catskill launch early...good thing as the fog was so heavy we couldn't even see enough to leave the dock for 2 hours!

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01656.jpg&hash=329728f47178854d336386d25e16a891)

All I could muster was this dink (Brian, notice the cropped photo  ;D )

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01662_edited.jpg&hash=b76dbe7a872b08411100be3ade96e243)

Also got out with Brian for some remote c&r trophy panfishing.  We used his rowboat to portage over some beaver dams into some untouched waters.  The gills were on beds and the crappies were tight to cover, so the fishing was VERY easy...with us catching just TONS of gills and crappies.

Great colors on this gill

Did a bit of catfishing the other night and MAN were the big ones on!

We started out at spot #1 with Jon having a fish snap his 20lb leader within a few minutes of starting.  After that we waited...and waited...and waited.  We knew the spot would produce, and sure enough after 2 solid hours we finally had another hookup.  The fish dogged Jon bad...and as it turns out there was a reason for this

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2F100_0330.jpg&hash=46604fb4ca3db92e8aca1d2d6e0129f9)

that is the massive head of the beast that Jon caught.  34" but he weighed 18lbs 12oz!!!

That is now the largest cat we have taken.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01674.jpg&hash=855a5c1c84bd4478ab2f1075c06b66a9)

That wasn't it, either.  We ended up making a small anchor adjustment, and bagged four more cats, including these two, both 16lbs!

my new PB 16lbs 10oz

Did some walleye fishing on Saturday, fishing the morning with 'bassinbrian' in the boat.  We hit a bunch of high percentage spots, with just one small eye to show for it.  Of course there was lots of 'other fish' like bass and bluegills, etc...but nothing noteworthy.

Spent the evening trying a new shore spot, and it worked out ok, with me getting one eye, about 17"

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01691r.jpg&hash=c9e8d688dc3d8663fd3b5dd189a84733)

tasty  ;D

Got out for the afternoon today, I figured I would change it up, and go for some high water trout.  Conditions weren't bad , the water was only somewhat off-color - even though the river was running a full 5 times its normal flow.  As long as the water isn't very muddy, or doesn't have lots of debris floating down, Ive done okay in high water.  It seems like the smaller trout tend to pull closer to shore in eddys and such, but the larger fish feed in along the edges of the main current.  However it works, I ended up with three trout on worms, 2 nice ones

This 16.5" brown was first

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01704r.jpg&hash=0abab7c5c46535c7baa5f6d9270ff762)

and then I got this extremely hard charging bow, 15.5"

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01706r.jpg&hash=022afa8d244a94d1672068c39dfbb823)

I released the smaller trout not pictured here, but these two 'mid-sized' wild ones took my whole nightcrawler very deep, and went home in the creel

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01717.jpg&hash=3387be9a8d83430a95c12b6418bf8ac0)

Also saw this cool looking flower that was only about 1" long.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01700_edited.jpg&hash=b48710b119dfe7740d7fcd54e0d79856)

Great fish, nice Honeysuckle blossom. If you bite the round nubs at the top of each petal, they hold nectar and are pretty sweet. Used to chew on 'em all the time when I was a kid.

I've heard of that.  I did look up the flower however and I think it is a Columbine - Aquilegia canadensis

Fished with Dwaytkus last weekend, we fished one of his spots and ended up with all kinds of fish.  We only bothered to snap pictures of this chunky smallie

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01730_edited.jpg&hash=a1e5a22f4e12721f7a511fcd8f5e4727)

The cats have been tough, with us only catching four good ones in our last 2 nights out, but there has been some nice ones

this one was 10lbs 12oz
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01732.jpg&hash=74b97981216f16ae56601848d3907b0f)

12lbs and change

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01736.jpg&hash=d7b6adb2f340fea0c300ab19a3240d32)

Jon with one of the two 15lbers he got the other night

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01741_edited.jpg&hash=77ad1d8343c64886a3ac9207e56295d0)

I've been doing a bit of 'eye fishing, and the last couple of nights out, the bite has been insane.  The only problem is that the majority of the fish have been short, so I may catch 5,6 or more, but only one is a keeper.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01723.jpg&hash=b21061c48dc26d088877c027812b3f8a)

I did end up getting 3 keepers the other night, which is the most for me so far this year.  With the warm weather next week, I think I might be able to squeak out a limit one night - we'll see. ;)

Did quite a bit of bass fishing over the weekend.  Got a pair of nice bass to show for it.

4lb largemouth caught on a plastic frog.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01754_edited.jpg&hash=54ada3126a40bfbe75cb3c00071b9d9c)

19" smallie on a live minnow.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01765_edited.jpg&hash=99e167c27f9667e62ae841c8fe0e7017)

Both of these were released river fish.  I did not have time to measure either of the fish for the tourney, sorry guys.

My buddies and I ended up catching tons of fish the last few days, the bass are really on right now - but the catfish...not so much ???

The eyes are on fire right now, but due to concerns echoed to me over revealing a certain fishery, I must now censor all walleye pictures. Sorry guys  :-\

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01691rf.jpg&hash=36ffbd5e23d3d313cc3b1b16e044829b)

There we go.  There are some walleyes there, but I cannot say how many, nor what size, or even what I caught them on.  They were taken somewhere in the lower 48 states, but I cannot say for certain.  I went ahead and blurred the background so as to prevent anyone from being able to tell where I filleted them.  Which was somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere.  I think.  ;D :D 8)

J/K guys.  I think some of you take $HlT way too seriously though. ;)

What a washout of a weekend ;D  I didn't get to fish in any rain at all :-\ What a pity ;D  Haven't been fishing too much lately.  Did get out for some cats, but they weren't biting too good..  Fished live minnows for smallies Saturday, got a bunch of small ones, and some small cats. Also been trout fishing.  Now the trout are biting.  I would have some pics of them for you folks, but I did not have my camera :-\

I did get some decent fish Sunday.  I fished with my buddy Mike, and we got some bass.  I had 4 or 5 bite offs too.  Love those, fishing a plastic worm, feel a hit, and then the line goes slack.  Mike and I both had pike also bite off our plastic frogs, that is pike biting through 65lb test braid, without a problem.  Thats why it boggles my mind that some people think braid resists bite-offs.  It doesn't in any way.  Oh well, here's the two biggest from yesturday.

I got this 3lber on a Fish Blaster Vibe tail
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FIMG_0063lk.jpg&hash=b5ac020ed00c386aa98c85c83ea66bd9)

Got my biggest so far this year, and a quality tourney entry, 21" 5lbs even.  Got 'em flipping a vibe tail Lizard.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FIMG_0059-1lks.jpg&hash=6d85b4a6bfbf1762467ab417456ee3a3)

Thats if for now.  Maybe some catfishing tonight.

Ok well got out for some fishing this weekend.  Started off fishing Saturday with Bassinbrian on some less traveled lakes.  Caught a ton of bass in the first lake - deep and clear - caught'em on everything too, just nothing of size.

Fished the second lake, shallow, weedy, small, dirty water - caught more bass, a bit bigger, but still nothing huge. Lots of fish in thick weed patches, glad I had heavy slop gear to bring the suckers through the thickstuff

here's a nice weed/bass patty

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01804ee.jpg&hash=fa7e7802ef6d880047a026d7cc783147)

Monday saw Dwaytkus and I out for big bass and walleyes with minnows...just one problem.  The fish did not want minnows at all.  They eye's were biting other stuff though, good thing for that.  I ended up with three good fish, 24.5", 25", 20"

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01815_edited.jpg&hash=50bd21d114b07413dd8733dc8bf72577)

we also caught a ton of chunky gills - it seemed like they were everywhere in the weeds.

Tuesday saw me fishing with Hookset in his boat on one of our favorite waters.  Derek caught all the nice fish however :D We did have a blast  8)

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01828ee.jpg&hash=e307d0cd484255bae465d216bb8079c4)

notice the last two, both from the same exact spot, except one is 10oz heavier then the other.

thats it for now, looking to do some more 'eye fishing soon - like tommorrow morning before work   ;D

nice fish red.

Thanks everyone  8)

you guys sure do have some good fishing in your neck of the woods

yes we do, this area is blessed with an awesome variety of top notch fishing.

Nice fish BigRed!  It's amazing the fish can even see your lure in the brown water we currently have in NY from all the rain.  I too killed them this weekend on The Mohawk.

Your not kidding.  We did pretty darn good on the mohawk too this weekend we just had ;)

This hot weather sucks!!  Hasn't hurt the fishing though ;)

Lets see here.  Been fishing the last few days in a row.  Friday went walleye fishing, I was all ready to get my limit early, get home, clean'em and go to work  - but of course I got blanked.  I just had to ask the trollers how they did - I think all of them had gotten at least their limits worth ::) Ehh.

Saturday I got an early start with Jon for a combo catfish/bass trip.  Got the rods in the holders and set, and in no time Jon had a bite.  As soon as he set the hook, he goes "this is NOT a catfish".  He was right.

26" striped bass
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01831_edited.jpg&hash=daf4c3f70ee964a951cad174cd964e08)

once it got light, we switched over to bass.  We found a school of active fish and holy crap!!  They were on!! We both hammered the snot out of small smallmouth bass - It was like a fish every cast for a few hours.  Lots of bass - but not much size.  We did get a few nice ones though.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01836_edited.jpg&hash=46ab090c67291e1a2ec9ee34501fd842)

I even ended up with this fat crappie

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01844_edited.jpg&hash=263e1c1bcd343d7202c6d7dcb9069ea7)

Sunday Mike (hudsonriverrat) and I headed out for some Largemouth.  The fishing kinda sucked first thing in the morning - but it ended up coming around in a big way for us.  Mike got this fat smallie

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FIMG_0087_edited.jpg&hash=f611dce66d36b6021643b13eeb80fb4f)

And I got this 22" 5.2lb Largemouth - my biggest so far this year

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FIMG_0088_edited.jpg&hash=add45f9889632c2c36345bb194268a07)

Monday night Jon and I headed our for some catfish.  They were biting pretty good too

Just before we hit up the cat spot, I had to throw a worm for some bass.  I got a smallie, and this nice pike

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01871_edited.jpg&hash=b0fedffe3edeab3bd407edb6bb1079b6)

Then it was off to the cats

Jon ended up taking 4 to my 1

Here he is fighting the first fish of a night

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01873.jpg&hash=85e0896584e03e59bd7183ff41d86e64)

not a bad one 30"

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01876_edited.jpg&hash=181d5c0be4c0f602df6c775cd80f549b)

just a bit later he ended up getting two at the same time

can you tell he's having problems holding 'em up?

30.5" and 32"
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01879_edited.jpg&hash=3798a44651535d285f5633f6adba6924)

the bigger of the two
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01881_edited.jpg&hash=3ed4101136b8651e4e6cfb44f880de49)

I ended up with the biggest cat of the night, 33" - 21" girth.  Some idiot forgot the scale (me ) but I'm guessing it was around 16.5lbs - which is equal to my PB  8)

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01887_edited.jpg&hash=c538c9d3962af8f370ab7caf2ffec677)

Jon got one more before we left, this big-headed male

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01891_edited.jpg&hash=c7d57126aede8539db7af7c495f888ae)

Tuesday night I headed out to one of my big bass spots.  I fished it for about 20 minutes before the bugs carried me away (and that is while being covered in 100% DEET).  I did manage to catch this 4lb 6oz bass before having to leave.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01897.jpg&hash=d9d134f9ed0fe05470cde9ef55004a6c)

Tried to do some trout fishing last night.  Ended up getting caught in a lighting storm a LONG ways from the truck, besides that the creek we were on went up 2 feet WHILE WE WERE THERE :pinch:.

nice cats-now thats my kind of fishin.

Thats just the thing...we used to use "light" gear, but that wasn't working out.  Those big channels were burying us into sunken debris using the deep water and fast current to their advantage.  I still feel undergunned with my catfish rods, and 20lb big game.  That 16lber came within a foot of wrapping me around a buoy - the buoy was 100 yards downstream from the boat.

Last year Jon had a cat on for 45 minutes that he could not get up with 15lb test and bass tackle.  We finally got it in the boat - a 12lber.  After that we agreed that we would not let something like that happen again.  It still takes a good 5-10 minutes to bring anything over 12lbs in even with the heavy gear.

also, you have a PM.

I always dread the hot weather we get around here this time of year.  The thing is that it doesn't hurt the fishing at all.  I got out for a solo bass trip this morning, and did pretty well.

First cast of the day and this big fat momma hit.

5lbs 12oz on the digi scale, my biggest so far this year ;D

self timer photo - a bit fuzzy

A few minutes later, and this solid 3lb 8oz took the topwater

First update in a while.  Haven't been on here too much, been trying to get as much week night fishing as possible, and I haven't had time to kill at work - but I do have a few fishing pictures.

Last week I got out with my buddies Kyle and Jon for some cats, and we did pretty good.  We caught 4 total over twelve - 2 15lbers

I started things off with a hard fighting 9lber that didn't get pictured. Jon took the two next fish, and good ones at that.

His first 15lbs 12oz.  34"

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01913_edited.jpg&hash=6b6be3e1a0b1b2098c2db5ce4e7b4915)

neat macro shot

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01914.jpg&hash=b7f52428946fd027018a2aa8d3d1586a)

His other big one 14lbs 15oz 33"

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01918.jpg&hash=71d561432f06419e4fd572074bb41b9a)

same macro shot, but on this fish

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01919.jpg&hash=7504bee800a960dfc924aeecf0c17b8e)

letting him go

Got out with my buddy Brian for some largemouth fishing in the downpours Saturday, and they were biting.

Started off early with this one

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01938_edited.jpg&hash=947bbcf8157e3043476bac86107a9a37)

Thats it for now.  Also been fishing for river smallies and drifting for cats - both are a total blast on light tackle.  Oh yeah, someone shot at me with a BB gun last week one evening.  Something about me fishing on state water, but they thought it was private ??? All I know what that I made it pretty clear they were going to stop or there would be problems ::) Then kept fishing, hammering smallies the whole time

Phew.  Its been awhile since I was last on here.  I am having a freakin' blast of a summer.  I'm getting more fishing time in then ever before, and it is starting to pay off.  Unfortunatly though, I don't get on here too much. Alot of my time on here was at work, but since a recent promotion, I have not had any time on here during the day at all.  In the evenings, I have been either fishing or (gasp) golfing (yes that is right, after not having picked up a club in 3 years, I went out cold on a local course and had the best round of my life, hitting par on half the holes)

ANYWAY.  With the hot weather we had, the fishing had been awesome.  Here's a good example of that, a nice jigged up largie

This weekend, the fishing was fantastic.  Friend of mine, and fellow MFF member Catchandrealease pointed me to a good walleye bite.

Brian and I went out the next day and CREAMED them

We took a total of 11 walleyes, including two larger fish that were released.  I even caught one on a bass jig!  We ended up with a good well-rounded mixed bag, including the fat crappie on the board.

Title: Pics
Post by: bigredfishing on Aug 20, 2006, 11:51 PM
I've got some pics here of last week's fishing.

"BassinBrain" with a chunky largie
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv655%2Fbigredfishing%2FDSC01985_edited2.jpg&hash=ade1a67bbf97a0c2b863d419498a36dc)

I've been doing some light tackle fishing for cats during the weeknights - drifting weighted baits under a bobber, or  drifting completely unweighted baits along the bottom.  They fight so hard on 8lb test steelhead tackle, its a blast.  I finally brought my camera to get some pics one night last week.
