Title: Carp pictures
Post by: Bean on Mar 03, 2004, 12:17 PM
Let's see some of the monster Carp you have caught. I'll start it off with a 36", 25 pounder I caught in the Juniata River last year on 6 pound test. Hopefully, I'll have a few more to post later this year.

Fastribs if you fish the delaware river above trenton fish at or between any of the bridge pillars preferably around the slower current ones.  Use a couple of kernals of corn on a #2 hook with just enough split shot to keep it a few inches from the bottom and hang on. also throw a couple handfuls of corn behind the boat.  There are some monsters around these pillars. Also slower bends in the river and behind or to the slack side of islands. The pillars around the New Hope 202 and stockten bridge are hot in the summer.

I tried the berkley carp powerbait last year, but didn't catch anything with it.
Don't know if I gave it a fair try though. The couple carp that I did catch were on earthworms.

Nice Fish!

Shall we look in the recipes section ??? for what you did with him, or did you kiss the fish and release?

Reelcharacter,
I release all the carp that I catch. I would like to catch them later when they are even bigger. If they tasted as good as walleye or perch, then maybe I'd keep a few.

This pig was roped on the Susquehanna River near my HQ Tunkhannock, PA. The fish was almost 40", I never weighed it. Made a lifetime supply of sour carp for catfishin' outa this sucker I did. My guess 30lbs. By the way this one hit a 1/4 oz jig w/yellow twister tail. Put up a fight worthy of an attack submarine.

All fish were released unharmed...

FYI...Corn does not kill them. For that matter it does not kill trout either. There has been a few studies showing this. Here is one article...http://sites.state.pa.us/PA_Exec/Fish_Boat/qcornbt.htm

SO here i am I just get off of work...As you might know i work nights 11"00 Pm to 7:00 Am anyhow so on the way home from work..Which takes me all of 6 mins.
I stop by the water to fish for a bit. Anyhow this morning i decide to try for our friend the" Toothy Criitter Pike"
...Since i can't get the lakers on my lake as they are not open yet.. Anyhow so im casting out these lures just switching  them at random...Anyhow i notice a Big ol Swirl to the Left of my cast and I get all excited anticipating the Big ol Pike hitting my Lure. The cast was perfect just 10 feet further out from where i saw the Swirl.

In my mind i figure i"ll just come by slow then a fast retrieve with my Lure to make it look like My Perch lure that i had was really scared of this Mean ol Pike. Anyhow I Had it planned just perfect the slow wobble retrieve Then i hit into the fast dive and retrieve...Then .......Bang....
The Rod just doubles and I feel a tug tug tug...and ZInggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg......

My lines just goes for the ultimate Run...My heart starts a pounding and here i am without a net....
All im thinking in my mind is ....".Darnit why didn't i put on the Leader...Stupid Germ Stupid Germ..."
Last year i caught a 22 pound pike and This one felt way bigger then that....Im just thinking to myself please don't get off please don't get off...

I start to bring her in and She is fighting like a champ...With the morning already being somewhere around 10 degrees i can already feel the sweat pouring from me   soaked with adreniline.
I see her swirl a bit in the distance  she felt strong but she was  also tired of Running and  it was time i brought her in....

Now  usually at this time im checking my watch (as i like to see how long it takes.).but my watch was in my pocket and this was deffinitly  a two handed JOb { no comments here)

My rod was just doubled  over as i was playing a game of tug of war with this beast.
All the time im also thinking...Don't Choke Like Rolly Don't choke like Rolly.....(had to put that in sorry Rolly)
SO now its about 20 feet from me and im still deciding if im going to mount this Pike in my Computer Room or My Frontroom...Is my wife going to Argue with me with a Pike in the Living Room?
All these decisions going thru my head and the Fish wasn't even in....YET..
SO im bringing her in down to 10 feet then 9 feet then 8 Feet...2 Feet....Then This

Man i was so stoked for it to be a Pike but As you can Tell
IT WAs to Good to be True.........Darn Carp
The fight lasted roughly 12 mins to get her in and i would have guessed it to be around 8-12 pounds give or take a pound. The fish wasnt harmed besides the lure in it and the  leash i had to put on while i went to get the Wife and the Camera....
Anyhow just thought id post it for all you guys out there who have had the Same pumped Adrenline feeling only to be thinking
I knew it "Was to good to be True"
Tight lines all and thanks for reading!

38.5 inches and 31 lb on 15# line     took 20 minutes to land.. It was awesome.
It beat my previous heavy weight fish by 14 lbs.  My heaviest until tonight was a 30 inch 17 lb channel cat, and longest was a 32.5 inch pike

it was in a finger off the the Canandaigua lake outlet.  water is moving but slowly.  Its initial run was about 130 feet or so.  I just hung on, and after that it slowed down, but still had several 15 foot runs..   My arm about died!!!!  :) :D :D ;D

I just realized what you were talking about.  That blue thing is a tape measure/ scales from Walmart that I bought a couple years ago.  I hooked it to a rig that clips to my belt.    lol  I don't use the scales and the tape is junk...  It counldn't measure that fish, as it is only a 36 inch tape!!! lol

It's a great place to get away, camp and fish, NO city noises, heck only here a few cars go down the road on the other side of river. Sounds of the river, birds, cows, bugs not to bad unless the cows are down on the inside field. Living on river time, walk 1/2 to 1 mile up stream, get in and fish back or float down and walk back. Just awesome SMB, catfish, giant pumkinseeds, and carp. What a great place, oh yea I said that.  ;D

great carp, no carp will not die from corn ::) neither will trout or any other kind of fish, not only does the corn get soggy and disintegrate in water, but any fishes digestive system can eat a bronze hook apart in half a day. no chance a piece of corn will last even that long. if you don't believe me or science, there are brands of artificial corn that you can use instead.

I agree, 15-17lbs. I caught a 30"er earlier this year that had a bigger girth then that and it weighted 15.5. That fish cant be much bigger then 30".

I wonder how much a typical sling weighs, I don't have one so I don't know... I'd hate to call the guy a liar especially since it seems like he has his stuff together. I know he said he zero'ed the scale, and I'm not going to even say he didn't because I am not calling the guy a liar!!The picture is also at a bad angle too. I mean hell if you look at the biggest fish in my recent post above that one isn't even 10lbs but it looks bigger. (It's just a better picture.)

He's got a Euro style net, nice buzz bars with alarms, all the apprioprate equipment. (Hell much better stuff than I have) and he metions having the sling (which is mandatory if you plan on weighing sizeable Carp) and a nice scale. Chances are (especially hailing from where he is from) this guy has caught more 15-25'ers than you, me and most of the people who are going to tell him he's nuts have even seen in our lives.  (No offense meant by that at all.)

Buzzbomb, are you a CAG member?

Who cares, if he says 30# then  it's 30#. Nice catch Buzzy, don't let the weight and length police bother ya. BBK if you caught  a 30"er with a bigger girth than buzzy's and it only weighed 15 you better get yer scale checked

Agreed.

The only person I would ever call out is some who isobviously telling a fish story and those who are known to tell fish stories and never have the picture to prove it. (Like some of my buddies .)

Those mirrors are beautiful.  They're very rare where I live; there's one caught out of the waters I fish nearly every year but I have yet to see one.
First off, I weigh carp in pounds and ounces, not inches.  I checked my scales with my spare set which are also Reubens and they're right on.  I just had my spares reset at National Scale in August.  If I had to guess the length of that fish I'd say probably around 33" because we measured a 29 - 7 that was about the same shape last year and that's what it was.
The biggest to come out of our little group this year was 37 lbs, but someone caught a 36 - 12 last Wednesday so the title's still up for grabs.  I didn't enter the big fish contest this year so I don't care as much as I could. :D  I'll try to post a pic of a 28 from a few weeks earlier.  It looks bigger than the 30 in the picture but it wasn't!  No, I'm not a CAG member, but I've been a forum guest since 2004 and started carping a couple of years before that.  I absolutely love this sport.
