Post by: walleyechaser on Jun 28, 2006, 11:36 AM
interested to hear what your best concerts have been?

my top 3 would be:
Clutch and Limp Bizkit at a very small bar
Down in a small club (Phil Anselmo from Pantera Pepper Keenan from COC)
Hank Williams Jr. w/ appearance by Kid Rock

Hey walleyechaser- Clutch is a good show live. I dont care for LB. Getting off topic though so my favorite concert would have to be Slayer/Pantera back in the day. Then maybe Snot a close second...

do you remember the Palladium in Roseville?  Thats where I saw Clutch.  Awesome show.
St. Andrews for Down.  It was sweet we didn't even know who they were.  They weren't very big at the time and we got free tix so we went.  Out walks Phil from Pantera and Pepper from COC.  It was a HUGE surprise.

I'm not huge into Limp Bizkit either.  I went to see Clutch.

Went with the wife to see Bare Naked Ladies.  Not big into them but they put on a great show.  One of the best sounding concerts I've seen.

2005 - Allman Bros Band - no Dickey Betts, but they still rocked FACE.  Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes were ON!

2000 - Chili Peppers & Foo Fighters -  The foo fighters opened and WOW.

199~ - Ratdog - not sure of the year, but it was the first concert I ever attended, and still stays with me as one of my favorites.

I don't know which was the best I've been to. I've been to so many great shows in the last 40+ years.

some memorable ones (though I don't really remember everything)
Eagles, the show was opened by Jimmy Buffett. WOW
     Stones (more than once)
     Paul McCartney
Elvin Bishop  (I was introduced by the band.....long story)
A 4 day concert in Sedalia MO, in the 70's: including but not limited to
            Charlie Daniels
            Marshall Tucker
            Aerosmith
            Eagles
            Skynyrd
And of course, many, many Dead shows

Its  hard to narrow it down to three , especially thru the haze of my memory ,but one week in particular comes to mind.  Joe Cocker/ and Stevie ray Vaughn (the week before he passed ) in rochester ny ,drove all night to Foxborough mass Greateful Dead
Brent as keyboardist , drove all night to a neighbors stop over party in sterling,ny  many local bands with Max Creek headlining.
Next day  Greatful Dead and Crosby Stills and Nash in Buffalo ,drove all night to Indiana to see the Dead at Deer Creek for two shows.  A day of rest ,drove all  the way back to Mexico ny for work the next day!  The Joe Cocker / Stevie Ray show was unbelievable the energy that Joe puts into his music ,and stevie was sober at that point in his career made for a great start to one the best summer tours I have attended. ;D

Queensryche/ (operation midchrime ) and Metallica (and justice?) was a good one in buffalo. Godsmack at the funhouse in a small bar setting was cool. Suicidal tendencies in buffalo (forgot who they opened for) but they were good. Korn in Rochester actually showed up Ozzy. Surprise show.......was kiss and skid row. Kiss bored me to tears as expected........but skid row, just sounded amazing. Crisp , Loud......and clean. Think my first concert was clarence clemmons (sax player for bruce springstein) I was quite the youngen and went along with my partying aunt and uncle in the very early 80's.

I saw that Queensryche/Metallica show too - in Pittsburgh.  Won the tickets on the radio.  We were in the front row right at the speakers.  My ears rang for a week.

The String Cheese Incident!
It was called Full Moon Dream Dance. July 2000. I still have the shirt.
It was a three day festival in North Plains, Oregon.
And get this: I was security! My job was to check for fireworks because we were on private property in the forest.

Man, oh man. What a weekend...

I guess it all depends on how young you are!!  In the 1970's, and at Rich Stadium, Buffalo, NY, we had "Superfest's" or "Summerfests". : 1976- Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones was an amazing show, I liked Clapton when I saw him as well.

Note to all, new rock bands (MCR, Coheed and Cambria, FallOut Boy, Taking Back Sunday etc.) can't put on a good show, I swear. I've gone to six, and they all suck, these dorks can't sing outside of a studio. ::)

It is a strange phenomona isnt it pasquatch? Long gone are the days of guitar solos and talented voices. Ive never been to one of the "new" shows, but ive seen some live DVD's, Hawthorne heights did some live stuff on MTV. Thursday as well, etc......and alot of them......as you said, are "studio" bands. lol. ANother thing thats  funny, is when i go to the record store (underground store) and i can walk out of there with about 24 free sample CD's that bands like the above put out to get there name out. Just shows how many bands are out there right now. Gotta be a heck of a competitive scenario to be givin your music away for free.

Mine is a toss up

1) Eric Clapton...........closed the show with an accustic version of "somewhere over the rainbow" had the crowd silenced

2) Beastie Boys feat: Biz Markie........not only top notch music but funny as hell

Wow this is tough Ive seen over 175 bands in concert  I am 24 yrs old and never  got the chance to see all the great  bands from the 70's :( Although I got to see my all time favorite artist Neil Young at Spac 99-00? Great too finally see him live but not one of my top 3

Woodstock 99" crazy 3 days and lots of good bands :)
Korn, Rob Zombie, Videodrone 99?  at Broome county arena in Binghamton  Lots of energy and good show from Korn and Zombie
Dave Mathews @ Vernon Down's racetrack 98-99? Not a huge Dave fan but incredible show 4 hours non stop from The band :)

4 hours of Dave Mathews  :pinch: :pinch: lol.  In all seriousness I did see them years ago and they are a very talented group. Tickets were free, so no harm, no foul. But i will admit they put on a professional show. The drummer is sick. 4 hours though?......maybe i read that wrong? But the only thing i can handle for 4 hours or more is wettin a line lol.  ;D
