So Grump, that is a Lake Sturgeon?? I didn't know they got THAT big. Thats a giant, even for white sturgeon. What a hog! Looks like they released it. Imagine how old a beast that massive is :)
-
hmm..strange, that same fish was caught in BC too...
its more believable cuz they actually get the huges ones out there :P
-
lake sturgeon...and they get even bigger than that....but this would be a rare catch by todays standards.....around the turn of the century, one was caught in the Roseau River southeast part of Manitoba that was 15 or 17'...Lake Winnipeg produced a tremendous amount of sturgeon before it was commercially fished to collapse in the late 1800's...they're still out there....nice one huh?....Grump

Yeah, it really is. Man. I would love to see fish that caliber in this area. I think it would be all I would fish for. f
I look again and its like "d**n thats a monster!!". Any idea the weight?
-
It weighed out at over 1000lbs
according to link... http://www.hoax-slayer.com/giant-sturgeon.html (http://www.hoax-slayer.com/giant-sturgeon.html)

all tackle world record for lake sturgeon is 168 pounds.
Georgian Bay May 29th 1982.
thats gotta be a whitey.
-
I wonder how old that fish is? 100 + at leaste? Could be closer to 200, any chance they took a guess (or better yet a scale?) Would be neat to know how old it was.

Wow I'm surprised its that small. They tagged one in a lake where my cabin is and it was just a hair under 10ft. They didn't weigh it but however was caught on a set line by fisheries. I could fish for them when the sockeye are spawning but fishing for them there is illegal :nono: but I would think that would be an easy record to break.

A fish that big is common down in lower Fraser. But alot of fish caught by guides are never brought to boat due to line breakages, anglers giving up and cutting the line....etc ::)
-
:o :o WOW!
-
I looked back at the pic that was forwarded to me, and its highly unlikely that fish came from the LOTW system.....note the angler holding the rod....thats not something that an angler heading out on the Rainy River would use unless they were specifically targetting sturgeon...me thinks its out of the Fraser River in B.C. as posted above....Grump
-
yeah ive gotten three emails with three different locations...but lake sturgeon also have a more pronounced snout.
still a helluva fish...i cant imagine what fun that would be..id be terrified to be complety honest.lol.
-
A true throwback to the days of the dinosaur. What a mammoth creature. WISH IT WAS ME who hooked that puppy. WOW!
-
:o :o At a quick glance it almost looks like a shark. :flex: :flex:
-
Holy sturgeon :o
-
Is there any definate word whether it was released? I find it hard to belive that they came up with a 1000 pound figure by guessing.

Now thats a fish and a half

That's a sturgeon is a bit too big and has the wrong coloration to be a lake sturgeon, I am guessing at a white sturgeon from BC's Fraser River. What a monster fish, a definite relic from the past. :flex: 8)

It came out of the Fraser River in BC and was released. We do have the biggest fish. Ha! An average sturgeon for the lower Fraser is about 6 feet long and 15-25 years old. That fish is exceptionally huge and is likely around 70-80 years old.
-
HOLY C*@P. THAT'S HUGE

:o HOLY CATFISH!!!! :o
