Title: Do Minnesotans hate the internet?
Post by: Skipper on Aug 21, 2006, 07:12 PM
Minnesota has the most registered anglers in the country, where is everybody!!! ???

Time to do some recruiting I think. ;)

I know there are other forums, but they are not nearly as fun, or have as good of members. :thumbup_smilie:

As far as Ice Shanty, Minnesota is ice fishing capitol of the World!!! We should be better represented than we are. ;D

I agree but it seems like all the other sites that I have found even if you peep a word of another web site you will be BANNED FOR LIFE so it is hard when you cant even get the word out I come on this site 100% of the time because it is just a great site even though no one is from the land of 10,000 lakes.

I agree, on those "other sites", they delete you for anything. You can at least speak your mind on here. If the members cant say what they think, what is the point of the forum?  Oh, I love the "pro staff" guys too, what a bunch of goofs. They pack in the ads, for sale posts everywhere, and when someone posts something really stupid, no one sets them straight, because you get deleted for flaming or criticising posts.

I like it just fine here, I just wish there were more of us.

Yea it gets kind of wierd talking about fish and lakes you dont even know but its still fun.

I still lurk on those forums for ice conditions, events, and such. I rarely post, I just don't see the sense in it. One site in particular has a whole board for Mille Lacs, some of the things people post on there are so asinine. I live 10 minutes from Mille Lacs, I know the area, I grew up here. When someone gets on there and posts that the water is so low you cant launch your boat, and I know for a fact that there is WAY more than plenty, it makes me wonder. Ive seen a post on trout in the Rum River, give me a break! I make some circles with people who fish allot, people who aren't in a mental stupor, I think the Minnesota page has some serious room to grow. ;)

its pretty fun on here you can talk about anyhting a want and not get a warning for it. I have seen the same type of things posted about lakes in my area and about all you can do is laugh.

You guys are getting me going. Now I'm gonna have to get those DVD's out and watch them for the 100th time. Both movies were great and I would love to come up and visit that town. Is it anything like in the movie or did they prop all that stuff?

I too am from Indiana and visit Minneapolis often on business.  I will be bringing my ice gear less "shanty" and hope for decent weather to do some ice fishing.  I always hear and see the fishing around the area, usually stay in the Coon Rapids area.

Where is this area you speak of, is it further north?  I'll have to check an atlas.  I'll be checking the ice shanty web site for posts as well.

Have some other enthusiast that I work with that do a lot of fair weather fishing, not sure how much ice fishing they do, but sure would like to get some experience in MN doing the ice thing.

Ray,  I'm from Michigan and I spend 4 to 6 weeks a year fishing in northern Minnesota mostly in the BWCA.
I have been to Rainy lake a few times, if it's Walleyes you're after I have had my best luck at shorty's reef and nearby Erickson's reef they're in Voyageur National park, and they're both  just south of Harrison's Island. we used leeches and minnow's on a lindy rig

I'm from Mn.,Palisade to be exact & I'll spend close to 200 days a year in one of Aitkin co.368 lakes or 600 miles of rivers&streams.
I'm pegged as a crappie guy ,but i'll go after everything that's biting.
True fishing sleeper is what my pops calls me.
I tie my own jigs & pour my own plastics and never or almost never use meat to catch the thousands of fish I get each year.

I've read this whole thread and agree about touchy mod's deleting your posts & or just flat out banning you.
I've been banned from 2 forums due to politics.

I now have learned not to peddle my jigs and let the pics do the talking.
It does help to have several guys using them & making the posts, blowin the horn for me if you will.
I've made a few posts here & nobody seems to be around much.
It was explained to me many have left due to politics as well.
I'm new here & do not know the history ,but I'll say that I fish a lot & I'll never lie about what I'm doing or what lake it was on.
I believe in helping not hiding out.

So if anyone ever wants to go rip lips ,just give me a shout.
CK

Politics and fishing mix as well as oil and water. Leave the agenda at the boat ramp and lets talk fishing.  ;)

Some other sites have such volume of garbage posts that the mods just get sick of it! We have a pretty good bunch here and on Ice Shanty, but there is always a little drama. :P

Welcome to the site! I hope you stick around and share a bit with us! These boards stay pretty quiet, but we have to start somewhere.

I am an outdoorsman.I live for rearing & shooting.
I'll be posting my pics and video.
If there are any positve comments great.Let's talk,if there are slams I'll not respond plain & simple.
I do not have the time nor the energy to ward off attackers and the occasional jealous guy.
I do have the time to help teach my methods and share my lake knowledge
free of charge.

I will try not to get too jealous!

Since I have you, do they have the rock buoys out on Mille Lacs yet? My Dad may buy a new boat and we may refrain from launching it in Cove if the channel isn't marked. It has a 350 Chevy/Mercruser and he wanted to get it out and let it scream before he writes the check.

I think they have them out before May 1st ???

The water was 50 on the nuts and we were work 2-4 feet of water.
You can tell that the water is warming, look at how black the males are getting.

T.H.E. jig was working really well.
Too well ,I caught another bass after I do not know how many I reared on & snapped off.I know I should have retied ,but I had more.
Well anyway I switched to loby's Drag-n Mags & never skipped a beat.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi65.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fh209%2Fpalisade1kid%2Fcrappies017.jpg&hash=6bf1ec2bba4b8c57e1deced0b48f7200)
They inhaled that plastic like no tommorow.Like it was there last meal.
I strapped on the Drag-n Mag onto a 32nd oz jig that was white with orange eyes and a collar.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi65.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fh209%2Fpalisade1kid%2Fcrappies012.jpg&hash=0c9f17921de5aa955ccdaaf96dcbabe2)
I know the 1st one caught 30 fish and was in the mood for more ,but like earlier I had more & a pike snipped it off.
Well I retied in about 45 seconds and went back to drilling them again.
To be honest I'm glad I sent them home with the 20 we kept &as my arms hurt & this post is draing what I have left.Sure is nice to not have to clean fish.
had to leave a few for seed anyway.

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi65.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fh209%2Fpalisade1kid%2Fcrappies030.jpg&hash=131ba9ccd16580f22513714ae7a13e4c)

I had Sunday open yet & I asked if those two giggling girls wanted some more abuse.I think you know the answer to that.
I also got a firm handshake and a wink from pops,so cool.

As we drove back across the lake I looked back to say goodnight , this is what she said back.

Very nice keith.  how big are some of those sunnies?  They look like beauts.  If i'm not right i believe you're based outta the aitkin area?  I know there's a ton of great lakes around there.  Congrats on a good weekend!

Your right, north of Aitkin 15 minutes.
The biggest was 11"
I've released much bigger ones.
I've been catching them in this lil lake for years and I always toss em back.
I know some guys that keep them & it kills me to see those monster get killed.
Besides I'm a crappie eater until walldogs open up.
some lake are pretty big that I fish & I would not mind sharing the name ,but this lil lake could get murdered quick.

They just started in this spring fed lake so the action and size will pick up over the next month.

Thanks for asking & it was a great weekend.
I'll be in it again this weekend.CPRing those bulls!

So you're pretty close to hill city?  A buddy of mine took me back to a little lake like that about 10 years ago somewhere in that area. It was basically just a wide spot in some little river, I don't even remember the name, matter of fact I don't think it even has a name.  I doubt it was more than 10 acres, and we had a blast ice fishing for craps.  Dang it, I wish I remembered where that lake was!!! Good to hear you're releasing those monsters. 11"s and you've gotten bigger?!  Very impressive.  What's some of those bigger lakes that you fish?  I'm looking at coming up next weekend for some pannies.  Think they'll still be in the shallows?
Title: Re: Do Minnesotans hate the internet?

18 minutes south of Hill City.
There's been too many really cold morings,so the fish have gone deeper.
It looks like rain all weekend so the fishing should pick up.
Most all lakes have pannies hitting in them ,you just have to put forth some time in finding them.
