wat do u like better ice or open water fishing???
-
I like open water fishing; more variety in what, when and how to fish. The hard water pursuit is a very close second, it gets me outside during our depressing, cloudy winters here in Central NY.

I actually prefer ice fishing. Must be the cold crisp air or something...the sound of an auger at sunrise...LOL :P
-
I like open water...more variety. I do start to look forward to the hardwater season around late fall, but I'm just as happy, when it ends in March, to break out the fly rods and waders.
-
I must say I like Ice fishing better (Freshwater), but prefer to fish the surf and saltwater during the summer.
Better chance for bigger and more quality fish, plus, it's a little more challenging. Don't get me wrong I fish my share of open water freshwater as well............I feel for you guys who live in the middle of the US and Canada who don't get the chance to fish the salt.............it's a whole vast other world.
-
Saltwater rules Mugz! I miss it already.
-
I love open water as well as ice fishing but spring and fall stripers on light tackle in the back bays of NJ is by far my favorite.
-
I LOVE FISHING PERIOD! ;D
-
Amen..........fishing, golf, horseshoes, pool, darts.................all the drinking sports. Ahhh........ Relaxation.

Ice fishing way more. I move around so much that I don't get a sore butt like summer fishing. There is less closures in winter so I get more of a variety of fish. I can pinpoint a hot spot and don't have to worry about the wind drifting me to fast past. Ice fishing is also where I go usually very quiet and peaceful. Sure you get the odd snowmobiler but very few. In summer the lake is fished more and also some flipping noisy sea-dooer buzzing around. Hate those things cause I have not mastered leading them with my 7mm Rem Magnum at 150 yards going 65 miles an hour ???

I like to do them both.I just like to fish, weather has never been a factor.
-
I'd have to say open water. I think peoples preference really depends on if you have a boat or not. I'm sure it can get really boring fishing from shore after a while. Having ice you could move all you want on a lake. I do have a boat hence the reason I like the open water better. You have way more variety on what you are going to use to catch fish. I like the warm weather as aposed to the cold weather. Summer to me in general is just so much nicer than winter. Don't get me wrong, I to get that urge to ice fish in the fall also but boy do I sure like it when all the snow is gone.
-
I like them both equally. But I already miss ice fishing and it just ended here.

i prefer ice fishing as lake access and parking are muchj less of a problem
-
I like both of them equally. Both have things that are great about them. :)
-
I'm gonna say open water, because I love bass fishing so much, and I can't fish for them during open water. But ice fishing is close...very very close.

Open water for me, although I love to icefish. When I'm icefishing I think about open water fishing. When I'm fishing during the summer I never think about icefishing.
-
I have 2 boats and still like on ice (which I'm still on). Never see any of those pesky mosquitos, no-seeums, blackflies, horse/deerflies either when I'm on ice. I likes fishing for burbot and in summer I would have to wait till midnight to fish in the dark (as that is when they are most active) Winter its dark at 4:30. Different strokes for different folks. I do like river fishing though as you are free to move around unless of course that space is occupied by a grizzly.
-
Both have there unique merits. Would not do without either.
-
i'd have to give a slight edge to open water fishing, theres a lot less gear to pack and lug around .it's nice to be able to just grab my rod and vest and head out fishin for an hour or 2 when i get home. another few weeks of ice fishing and my spine would have been permanently curved from all the sight fishing i do on the ice.

ICE .....ICE ....ICE ...
-
I never seen a snake ice fishing, but I do see bugs but less then open water. I'll say ICE #1. Also less boat traffic and not so hot.
-
I really love all fishing. I guess I look forward to icefishing a tad more simply because of the limited amount of time that I can do it. I gotta cram as much time on the ice as I can before the ice melts. And, the techniques are different than those that I use during the remainder of the year that it is just special. Please don't take any of them from me...or...I'll...just ... :'(

Ice fishing all the way
-
Ice Ice Baby! ;)
-
the one where you get to fish. ;D
-
Both are equal. As long as I am fishing it does not matter.
-
Put me on the HARD WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
narrow-minded folkes, both have advantages.
I prefer open water river fishing because, hey, I can't ice fish the rivers around here! they are too big and too strong and don't freeze much!
I prefer ice fishing a lake, the fish are much easier to find and much more willing to bite when you get something in front of their face. Also, a morning bite has been there 100% of the time while icefishing a lake and not necessarily 100% of the time while openwater fishing a lake. Also, during icefishing season, the weather doesn't matter as much. It can be an awful blizzard but them lakers will still keep coming through the hole, but in summer, a huge, terrenchial (sp) downpour will put the fish off. Also, water temperature is not an issue because it is always the same. also, the fish are more predictable.
Overall, they are equal because I love river fishing (openwater) which is my true passion, and I love icefishing, which is just plain convenient, easy, and great.
-
Open or hard, water is water......get me on it!
-
nuff said? ;D
-
I like them both, to me I have a great time doing either one.
-
My friend Dan pletcher got me into ice fishin 2 years ago and i have to say i really like it, but you cant beat a day on the water in a boat fishin for bass and pike in Pa. Ill fish for just about anything that will bit a lure im not into live bait fishin that much. i do accationnal fish for walleys with live bait.
-
just something about fishing through the hardwater ;D ;D
-
So long as I'm fishing I'm happy open or hardwater. }<)){*> <*}((>{
