I consumed that monster right after that photo was taken!
....Tasted like a pastey anchovy!!! By eating it right then and there, it didn't count for my limit! So, I was able to add another huge one to my stringer instead!.....Thank God we're headed to that 'Honey-Hole' for the 1st day again this year.....Wonder if I'll break my record for my smallest stockie ever caught. ::)

I wish the fish commission would spend the money on fish that reproduce more in lakes.also we need to get rid of the first day of trout season,so there is no big rush of people at once ,to clean out the creek.Leave open all season like other states, stock streams unannounced if you want better fishing.Just my$.o2 worth. We ice fished a trout lake this winter and put the trout in native stream for our boys,so no fighting a big crowd of most greedy fisherman.

Well the creek is already to go for the BIG opening day of trout season. I do have to say this they did put some nice trout in this year. Better then the years past. I know i had one trout that was some where around the 20" mark and a few that where in the upper teens like 16,17" range.

Let me get this straight - in the first part of your post you bashd the PFC stocking practices and illustrated your disdain for the opening day crowds - which contain many youngsters (the future of the sport) enjoying their first fishing expedition with Dad or Gramps,
then,
in the next breath you boast of transplanting NON-NATIVE Aggressive fish into a NATIVE BROOK TROUT stream , just so YOUR BOYS can have it uninterrupted by the unwashed masses.

YOU sir - are a HYPOCRITE,

and according to Bugs Bunny, you are a Maroon Too !!

The creek i went to yesterday for the Southeast opener had a bunch of stockies you actually had to measure to see if they were even legal...I'd hate to see what it'd look like the PFBC stocked smaller fish instead of bigger fish  ::) ::) ::)

Not to mention bucket stocking is ILLEGAL (and for MANY good reasons). I wouldn't exactly broadcast to the world i broke the law  ;) ;)

Yeah your right who cares anyway you wont be standing in that creek on opening day. ;D You will be on the boat on the lake catching the same thing i will be catching in some creek somewhere. We were out there on opening day last year and didn't get a one big one. ::)

Transporting those fish was not the brightest idea, nor was announcing it amongst law abiding anglers.
Title: Re: STOCKIE REPORT
Post by: Rebelfisher on Apr 03, 2011, 09:07 PM
The differece between me in the boat and you in the creek is that the lake has a SUSTAINED trout population that grow to sizes that rival some of the trout in the great lakes...thats what Im after, and you're not going to find that opportunity in harveys creek. If you want to win big, you got to GO where the big boys are! Granted, we limit out with tiny stockies, but the chance is there for something WORTHWHILE.
Title: Re: STOCKIE REPORT
Post by: Locnar on Apr 05, 2011, 07:44 PM
Opening day is essentially the same as going to the grocery store and buying some trout out of the case for dinner except you have to be there for hours to get your grocery basket filled. Opening day is good times for kids and old timers, I go occasionally for a nice meal untainted with pcbs or mercury, but thats it, I wait till late fall-winter for the real trout fishing to begin. My opening day is roughly Late November thats when the pigs are hungry in the streams of NE PA!

Ever since the boat launch got washed out in one of the floods years back they've been writing tickets for using the canoe/ cartop launch as a boat launch. The past 2-3 years they've allowed us to launch boats in the "off season" which was usually Nov through mid April. The lack of any boats out there so far this year has me thinking they are back to enforcing the no launching rule  :-\

I have actually caught steelhead out on the lake with power bait before but mostly i don't use the stuff.

I see that there were at least some decent trout caught  in NEPA......  I would not have guessed it but I seen it with my own eyes thanks to WNEP outdoor life.   Did anybody else see the guy walking from the one lake carrying what looked like a salmon net........  they must have put some monsters in there for that to be needed.

Too bad you didn't have that net for the monsters you caught Sat, Jiggerman!

I wasn't even gonna go when Rebelfisher mentioned about the weather report. But, my dad and brother wanted me to head out with them to Moon Lake, since I wasn't goin to Harvey's with RF. They were only goin for a couple hours in the mornin before the monsoon hit anyway. So, I went. Needless to say,...where we'ved shorefished there for many years, the wind was blowin across the lake into our faces. Knew it wasn't gonna be fantastic. But, didn't think it would be that bad. My dad caught 1 of those 10 inch monsters!....and 6 pickeral between him and his friend. I had 3 strikes on the spoons I use. Guess those monsters!...were so BIG!...they couldn't get their little rainbow mouths around the treble hook! ::)

and thats exactly why I will never consider those great lakes fish to be real steelies in my eyes  ;) ;)  genetically they may be but they are still just stocked trout to me

There was ONLY about 30 guys at Harveys Creek earlier when I drove by  :cookoo: :cookoo: :cookoo:  I betcha I could have gone up to the DHALO stretch and had it to myself to catch them same pelletheads

At least the steelheads that are stocked were introduced as juveniles....they had to survive by themselves and basically grew up in the lake.....still stocked fish, but definitely not a put and immediately take program like pa does for the most part....Sad to say, but if you want a quality fishery for them that is what needs to be done..

Hit Harveys creek for a few hours in the a.m. Caught at least 30-40 between my cousin and I. Couldn't keep em off the hook at times. No monsters, most around 9-11 inches with a few 12'ers mixed in. Came back in the afternoon and caught a few more between the rain showers.

Sunday was a different story, hit a local lake for a few hours in the afternoon and just whooped up on the bass. Between my cousin, my friend and I we landed 13 bass all over 2 lbs, some pushing 3.5lbs. What a day to be out, 48* water temp and the bite was on!
