There was a spot on Wappingers Creek called Rimphs Bend....  It was kind of close to the airport area...   We had a big rope swing in the tree there....  It was the deepest hole around...  We would use our cane poles and bring home a good size bucket load of crappies....  I lived on Vasser Rd, on the creek, between the school and the firehouse....

As soon as the creek ice melts I be there too. The rest of the bay can stay frozen. That way I can have the feeder creek to myself at least for a little while. It's like a parade once other people can get their boats in. ;)

A question on shallow shoreline flooded timber.  Will the crappies move right in to that immediately after ice out or does the water have to warm up some (45-50?) before they do?

Where I fish ice went out then we had 4 or 5 days in the 60's and then they started biting, water temp I'm not sure. I'll try and remember to check tomorrow

you know  it's  kinda  strange  different  places  crappies act  different  one  lake  i know  had  ice  on it  about  10 or 12  days  ago  the  creek was  open  and i  did  good  on  wood and  brush yet  other  places  like  horseshoe  island on onieda river they stage  on  the shallow  sandy  flats  first  till  the  temps are  higher  then  they  move  to the  wood  ....  so  it's a  live a learn  thing  for  me

had a tough time at my local lake sunday.   We fished all around in great conditions.   Hit 7 spots, only caught fish at one spot.   we put the hammer down on them for about 15 mins before they stopped biting...and that was it! ended up with 19 crappies.

How are you all fishing for them?  Minnows? Trolling? Jigs?  I've only had luck trolling for them.  I haven't gotten out this spring yet, but the itch is definitely there to go.
