there is signs on the toad no wake 5 mph anywhere with in 1000 feet of shore if we get any waves at all the parking lot will be completely under water......and it's still rising
-
That's some high water rite there that's for sure
-
Thanks for the pics trapp , and from what I read the lake hasn’t crested yet ,
-
they said 6 to 12 inches more
-
Yikes Trapper....thanks for the update. Is that harbor a pier anchored floating setup? Been a few years since I was last there.
-
Was there fishing the weekend. The docks are floating with the rising water level. Wright’s is providing pallets and building wooden walk ways onto the docks which is a huge help. Biggest headache is not having shore power to connect to our boats. Lots of generators running.
At least the salmon and browns don’t care! 😃
-
water comes up any more you won't have a parking lot there ....
-
as of yesterday we are 1.2 inches away from the 2017 record and the water still has not peeked :(

Nearly the wettest spring on record. All the lakeshore residents are crying for my tax dollars for break walls, repairs etc...etc....etc. Mostly they blame "Plan 2014" for the high levels and not good old Mother Nature.
Maybe it's global warming....or one of Trump's secret plots.
If it keeps up I'll start builidng Arks in the Little Wood Shop.

As always you can't teach common sense and they all forget the number one rule ( MOTHER NATURE ALWAYS WINS )
-
From the 50's to the 70's our family had a cottage north of Lyndonville on Lake O. In the last 50 years more than 100' or shore line has disappeared along with that cottage and all the others in the cove. A neighbor had huge blocks of sandstone stacked for a breakwall.
It's all gravel at the bottom of the lake now.
Rg

Water runs down hill and 85% of it comes from Erie , must be the other 15%
I’ve lived near Lake Ontario my whole life and have seen lots of shore line erosion along the eastern basin

Let me know when you start taking orders Bob. Our family cottage is on a concrete slab on Lake O near Rochester, close to the outlet. When I was a boy there was so much beach that you had to wear flip flops in the summer to go for a swim to prevent the bottom of your feet from getting burned. I would say 150'. Now the lake is right up against the slab. My grandfather (I believe) built the first cottage there well before WW II and had no idea the lake would rise several feet over the decades. I agree there is probably no reason why the Feds should reimburse some of the costs for shoreline damages. For many, like my brother, the "cottage" is his home and he is working as hard as he can to save it. In the end, yes, mother nature always wins. (Think Miami, NYC, ...)
-
I see on another website that they may have closed the launch now?
Secret plot by NYS (I know it is not a state launch) to raise the water, close all of the launches, less fish get caught, stocking numbers go down...
On a positive note, it definitely makes for better fishing. If you can get out.
-
The problem and answer is massena to open the gates on the st lawerance .....i was fishing by the marine museum and the water is about a footvfrom going over the wall hope we dont get a bad north west wind....this problem all started with the 2014 water level plan and instead of both governments (us and Canada) admitting it is causing flooding they decide to say be patient it will work .....it will never work you have to let the same amount of water out as comes in to stay at the same level .....the joint commission screwed up
-

Rg
RG blaming plan 2014 only is common since , if you don't let out as much water as is coming in ,the level goes up under the plane they can't lower the lake in the fall nor change flow depending on run off ...it isn't working it went in effect summer 0f 2016 spring of 2017 flood .... above average rain in 2019 flood .....all in hopes of keeping the lake at a consistent level???? nature never did that and it worked out just fine
good news it will be a great lake Ontario perch year ;D

ain't that something ,and I have to be honest it isn't safe down there right now a wave could go right up into the parking lot or someone could walk off the wall into deep water

If they let as much water out as is coming in everything downstream of Messina would be feet under water. Lowering the lake level by 1 inch increases the St Lawrence at Montreal by 11 inches. Not to mention the immediate impact on billions of dollars of shipping.
It's a serious balancing act and I wouldn't want the job. A lose lose situation for sure.
Just look at Oneida and multiply that by the Great Lakes drainage system. Blaming Plan 2014 is ignorance of the facts.
Rg
-
The Ottawa river which flows into the st Lawrence is all ready over it’s banks so I’m told , so more water would flood Montreal , and I’m betting that’s not happening , just a guess
-
no before plan 2014 the lake would have been lowered during the fall and winter they can't do that under plan 2014 so you have the lake built up then the increase of run off and rain and now where again stuck ....scrape 2014 and go back to lowering in the fall and winter works on all the other lakes
when you can't get to your boat remember how green and safe hydropower is ::)
-
http://But that report estimated the Plan 2014 would, on average, increase the lake level by only 2 inches over Plan 1958D. Lake Ontario is now 27 inches above the long-term average for May.
While it’s little comfort to homeowners, the report noted that damage to coastal development is inevitable under any regulation plan. Under Plan 1958D, the report estimated, high water levels caused about $15.5 million in damage. That would increase by $2 million, the report said, although it would affect mostly sea walls and other retaining structures, not houses.
This year, as in 2017, Lake Ontario is taking in more water than it can let out. Upstream, Lake Erie has reached record levels thanks to heavy rains across the Great Lakes basin, and has been dumping water into Lake Ontario at unprecedented rates. About 85 percent of the water that flows into Lake Ontario comes from Erie.

yup common since mac
-
Wow,you should run for president or office of some kind sounds like you have all the answers to straighten it all out !! Hahaha
-
It has been an unusually wet spring of course and I guess the outflow system is just not robust enough to respond. I think it also has been more cloudy than usual which may reduce evaporation of the great lakes? They can't accurately predict these things a year in advance. I heard from a relative that the St. Lawrence is a minefield now with wayward docks, trees, barrels and other debris.
It is what it is for now. I say drink more water and flush less often, we can all do our part. :o
-
If you read the reports( a little research) you'll find that throughout 2017 and 2018 discharge levele were way above normal and at maximum given it's effect on downstream St Lawrence. Unfortunately there's no magical way to send more water to the ocean without drowning everything in its path. Simply put, we've created a system to try and control amounts of water flow that are uncontrollably high.
No different than much of the mid west where the Missouri River is overflowing or the floods in Louisiana in 2016.
As I said before, lowering the level of Lake Ontario by 1" raises the level of the St. Lawrence by 11". Lake Ontario was 27" above normal. If it were discharged it would equate to 24 feet of water rise downstream. Not to mention that to lower Lake Ontario as some think , the flow from Lake Erie would have to be stopped. Lake Erie provides 85% of the water that feeds Lake Ontario.
It's not about what they did or didn't do last fall. It's just 3 years of extraordinary rainfall.
Rg
-
again the water release over the summer was according to 2014 in a attempt to keep lake Ontario ar the projected plus minus 4 feet ....more water could have been let out....it wasn't they followed the 2014 plan ...... leaving the lake at what they considered the desirable level ..... research all you want you can't pure more water in a full glass .....
Gov Cuomo touched on this Sunday at Oswego marina ..... lake Ontario does a lot less damage a foot low in the summer them 3 foot high now...... you keep researching RG we'll fix it don't worry
side note Rudy's is still open the Texas Hots and fish sandwiches are great but the have sand bags out back to stop damage if the wind picks up
and I still caught some dukes and 2 smallies lol ...becareful that water is scary high

I'll sleep better knowing your on the case.

Glad to hear Rudy's is still ok for the time being. If the current trend continues, while the Army engineers are around, they could get approved for a pier system drive through for boaters.... :w00t:

IT"S OFFICIAL
The water level in Lake Ontario hit a modern-day high on Friday, exceeding by a sliver the record set just two years ago.
The preliminary calculation for Friday showed the lake at 248.98 feet above sea level. That surpassed the record of 248.95 feet, which was reached on four different days in late May 2017.
all boats are being removed from wrights landing .....first time for this
see if I can get some more pictures today
-
Pain in the groin moving those tubs
They are saying as much as an inch above the 2017 record , but could be higher as Erie may break a record set in 1986 ,plus the added rain figuring in ,
-
Erie is sure dumping a lot of water into Lake O.
Sure puts a damper on a lot of business. Is Oneida high because of rain or inflow from the canal system?
Looked to me like the creek I fish nearby came up 6" or so overnight although the USGS monitoring station doesn't reflect my opinion. Fished it yesterday and it was high, but reasonable. Really riled up this morning. Must have rained a lot to the south of us. Not much other than sprinkles around here.
-
RG they had rain south of me hard , far as Oneida they have it under control , as of last Thursday I walked out on dry land to cast and the week before I used my hippers to get to the same spot ,my knee boots might have worked just avoiding the splash over
-
Oneida dropped about a foot in the last 2 weeks.
-
the record was surpassed Friday the lake is even higher today....... I say we all stop wasting time and move rudys across the street now!

you can still get to the launch area of wrights and 3 charter boats are still running off the main dock the road is now barricaded with a no trespassing sign the parking lot is flooded worse and yesterday afternoon had waves in the parking lot ......without doubt I never seen flooding in lake Ontario like this..........
-
Yes sir it’s still rising Lake Erie is at an all time high and Canada is at flood stage , nothing that can be done other than ride it out

no more rock bass fishing in the parking lots Freddie :rotflol:
going to ride the lake shore abit see what it looks like rice creek has to be really bad

I stopped by yesterday afternoon and looked down from the McCrobie Building at the marina. There were ducks and geese paddling around in the road and parking lot, people tossing bread to them. I was surprised that there was still a number of boats docked.
-
lot of boats are staying from what the people told me the charter boats aren't going anywhere

I don’t know the details. I just know that in the winter there is a lot less water flowing in so the lake level could possibly drop without increasing the water flow coming out. So it might not negatively effect anyone downstream.

One of the first things Oblio and Arrow noticed about the Pointless Forest was that all the leaves on all the trees had points, and all the trees had points. In fact, even the branches of all the trees pointed in different directions, which seemed a little strange for a pointless forest. […] Oblio told the Rock Man that they were banished and asked him whether or not this was the Pointless Forest.
The Rock Man said, “Say, babe, there ain’t nothing pointless about this gig. The thing is you see what you want to see and you hear what you want to hear. You dig? Did you ever see Paris?”
“No.”
“Did you ever see New Delhi?”

RG you do know it's ok to question the government and when a plan doesn't work to adjust it so it does instead of making excuses while people loss their homes......

ent down to the river to fish but water came back up so I went to wrights landing and breitbeck park
water is higher then last time I was there and seen some interesting things
first is they added more pallets to the bridges to get to the docks

so walking around i noticed buck eyes swimming where i use to park

then further down i noticed small perch in the parking lot and roadway

and this is a reminder that this flood is costing us more then docking our boats but alot of money

The Lakeshore Flood Watch is no longer in effect.
* LOCATIONS...Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, and
Jefferson counties.
* LAKE SHORE FLOODING...The combination of record high lake
levels and strong west winds will result in greater wave
action and an increase in lakeshore flooding on the shoreline
of Lake Ontario.
* TIMING...From 10 AM to 10 PM EDT Friday.
* IMPACTS...Lakeshore flooding will increase, especially in bays,
inlets, and other low lying areas along the shoreline. Wave
action will produce an increase in shoreline erosion.
Recommended actions
A Lakeshore Flood Warning means lakeshore flooding is occurring,
is imminent, or is expected to occur. People in the warning area
should take immediate action to protect life and property. Listen
to local radio...television...or NOAA Weather Radio for further
information.

I was in oswego when he came dacker and I'm not a Cuomo fan but I think he was honestly concerened I been driving the lake shore and looking the damage is really bad ,this really needs to be addressed ,it's not fair that these folks are suffering not once but twice because a plan didn't take into consideration rain and run off ....finally this is being admitted maybe changes can be made for the future...but we have to address the damages now
-
Let’s hope this problem can be rectified
Although my perch rods are ready

He’s gonna sell you the economic development theory and that high lake levels are the new norm. With a little bit of global warming sprinkled on top 😂 you can take a bite of that chit samwich, but I’m not gonna :w00t: :w00t:
-
couch this really isn't about Andrew Cuomo it's about homes and business being flooded ,how it's hurting the local economy and fishing
-
with bass season opening tomorrow I made a few calls
Selkirk shores Phone: (315) 298-5737
I was told pine grove is flooded and closed but if your careful you can launch small boats ..... mexico point is limited in the same way and no they are not charging at this time ...... but the lady told me small boats only I assume car toppers i'll use the yak myself....
if I find more I will post them
oswego river is backup over 11,000 so drifting worms and crabs would be useless

well the Oswego river is back over 13,000 cfs the waves are crashing over the wall at Rudy's hitting the picnic tables and now the lock in phoenix and fulton closed from my understanding ....I was going to use the boat launch in phoenix between the canal and river (island park) and the access is totally closed ,from what I heard it has to do with the lock being closed...... still 2 bass this morning and I seen a big coyote ....not a bad morning
-
Not trying to pee you off Trap

i know mac ...not sure why they closed the park in phoenix I don't see where the locks would hurt that
-
Trapper I heard they found a problem with the lock in Phoenix that needed immediate attention and repairs are underway.i don’t think it has anything to do with water level.i live and fish right there all the time so hopefully it doesn’t take too long
-
farmer I fish there all the time to I may have met you perch fishing and feeding that blue heron, yes I heard they closed the lock and need to work on it they can't control the water in the lock from what I heard also they closed them in fulton too (that's here say)....but I don't understand what that would have to do with the park????
I was going to launch in phoenix open day of bass but couldn't oh well, still did ok ;D
-
Yeah not sure about the park either.it was still closed this morning when I drove by
-

if you can get your boat out the fish are there Oswego harbor is still flooded and the river is running somewhere between 17,000 and 18,000 cfs that sorta cancels drifting for walleyes or bass ......
