It's shark week folks! What better way to celebrate than to hook and land a giant of my own? Easily 350lbs but I am guessing 400lbs plus and over 85". I am absolutely ecstatic and exhausted but I will not be hungry!

Great work Mike. How long was the fight?
-
Oh d**n that’s awesome! Those things are delicious too! I’m also curious on the fight, and where you also targeting them specifically?
-
That's awesome Mike! Great stack of steaks there.
-
Nice catch! I've never had porbeagle but mako is delicious. I'm guessing they're almost the same in flavor. Enjoy your bounty!
-
That’s awesome .. Bet it taste great…Congratulations.
-
Wow, the chops look great! What a catch.
-
Looks like some nice meat right there, get the smoker ready!
Congrats!
-
Incredible catch! Thanks for sharing, must have been interesting getting that giant in the boat.
-
Thank you all for the kind words!
Westernmas/zwiggles- want to say that the fight was about 30 minutes or so.
800Stealth- were targeting tuna but blue sharks, porbeagle, and even mako and thresher are always expected. For me, i have never caught either so this was perfect.
Steve H. - i hear that thresher is the best, then porbeagle, then mako. I had some of this already and would compare to if not better than swordfish.
Bartman44- we initially thought 250lbs. We quickly realized we were way off when trying to bring that beast over the side. 3 people and we struggled. Tail line and 2 gafs and a helping 4th hand tipping it over into the boat. 400lbs is not underestimate.

Very cool!
I'm curious - - If you buy shark at the grocery store, what kind of shark is it usually?
-
Wow nice catch, must have been fun bringing that in.
-
Absolutely delicious
Great catch
World record is 507#
We should’ve weighed this one.

I believe it's mako, but I'm not certain.

Yes , Typically thrasher or mako
-
Nice Job!
-
Sharps, did you get it on stand-up gear? Were you fishing for Giants at the time?

Yes this was caught on 500 series standup gear.

Yep! I hear thresher is the best, then porbeagle, then mako. I can tell you this porbeagle is like swordfish but better

Nice 👍
-
Look at that. Not sure how but somehow it made the Providence Journal and Woonsocket Call. Little write up in the second column.

I would compare them to swordfish. Great on the grill and holds its texture.

eat it fresh, not so good frozen.
