Got out today for a couple hours between classes and hit a local year-round river for trout. Ended up with only 3 rainbows for myself, and 1 for my friend Wes. All came on waxies drifted about 4 feet under a float. I missed a few and lost a real big fish as well, which I'm not so sure was a trout (maybe a walleye...the guy next to me caught a 26"er earlier in the morning).

Glad to hear you got out. That quote at the bottom is the best!! :rotflol: :rotflol:

Hey Zach, just so you know those fish are mainly put in there for the kids to fish on during springbreak. There is a derby going on for kids 16-under from April 1-15th. There are 25 tagged rainbows that if they catch they will win a prize. So if you see some kids down there next week trying like heck to catch some fish it would be cool if you gave them a few pointers on how you do it.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adirondackdailyenterprise.com%2Finclude%2Fimage_generator.asp%3Fpath%3DF%3A%5Coweb.net%5Cadirondackdailyenterprise.com%5CstoryPhotos%5C060327fishing1.gif%26amp%3BWidth%3D285&hash=aa7c7cacccbaa70565bfd6f10d870c57) State DEC Fish Culturalist Ken Klubek drains the tank used to transport 400 rainbow trout from the Adirondack Hatchery to stock the Saranac River Friday.
-
nice fish, cant wait to get some rainbows on the river
-
Jeeze, I didn't realize that they were put in there for that...I guess I probably "shouldn't" be fishing for them than, eh? Right now they're stacked right up in one hole...we didn't see any tagged fish today or this evening. I'll probably actually do a little fishing there tomorrow, seeing as there is nowhere else to go until Saturday (oh jeeze, one day... :P )...We're letting everything go, I just kept that one because it managed to get my size 12 hook lodged in its gills... ::) If I see any kids down there, I'll definitely help them catch some fish. Still not sure where I'm going this weekend though...
-Zach
-
them'z are some cute little rainbows. :w00t: :w00t: :thumbup_smilie: nice bright colors.
-
Oh jeeze, my fish are "cute." :P  Jeeze, if they were brookies they would be nice...but being that they're stocked 'bows, they're just "cute"... haha Okay, so they might be little, stockie bows, but it was fun to get out and catch a few fish in the short amount of time I had....I'm going to the Ausable one of these weekends, so I'll try to get something a little less "cute" for all of you to see.
-Zach
-
it's harder to caught those little ones, just like it's harder to shoot those littler ones, too. ;)
They are nice fish, and what a great day it has been the last few days to be out doing what we all enjoy, FISHING. ;D 8)
-
Those are some really CUTE stocked Kiddy Trout lol
J/k a fish is still better then no fish :)
-
Tim, I was goin nuts not being able to fish (just don't trust the ice... ::) ) so these were a blessing in disguise...I'll be home in a week or 2, looking forward to the shore fishing! ;D
-Zach
-
Hey anyfish is better than no fish, even if the are cute LOL, Bet it was good to get out?
-
Hey, when you've got nice weather and running water you gotta get out there. Cute or ugly be glad they're fish ;D
-
Hey...stay out of the "kiddie" pool. Those poor kids won't have any fish to catch. :police:
-
glad to see you made it out and caught some fish!! good luck Sat.
-
Nice one Zach takin fish from Children, whats next? muggin little old ladies, tisk tisk, what has this world come to? i was gonna invite you out when i go with my daughter but now I'm afraid you might push her overboard and take her rod.
Nice fish man. I'm jealous, at least you're gettin out! even if your takin opportunity away from orphans and homeless people. :D
-
Nice man!! Thats a sweet little section there....if you go upstream a little on the opposite side theres a little crappy ass concrete bed creek the flows in, Ive seen PILES of nice browns there....you may see a fatty turtle chasin them....also dont pass up where the water flows into there from the above body of water...get some minnows under a float :)
-
nice little trout
-
Went out with a couple friends today in search of brookies and browns. It ended up being a decent trip, as I landed 6 brookies myself and lost 3 or 4, including a nice 18" or so brown. :-\ Josh also landed 3 brookies, and Shaun...well, he took the goose-egg once again. :P :whistling:
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2FPaul_Smiths_0111.jpg&hash=e33b9490796ee61b7cb575572931b876)
I didn't take many pictures, as my hands were frozen, but here's one of the nicer ones I caught.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2FPaul_Smiths_0131.jpg&hash=e6ddb58a0d62befce8256842cec6c0fd)
Look at the beautiful colors on her... :D
Sorry I couldn't provide more pictures, but like I said, my hands were frozen and I was having trouble even threading my wax worm onto my hook! Oh yeah, all fish were released. Decent outing for only and hour and 1/2 or so.
-Zach
-
Nice brookie, Zach. That is indeed a beautiful fish. 8)
-
Awesome color there on that brookie, but the snow, makes thing look cold out there.
Nice trout, yet to get out myself this year for the trout. :-\
-
Good fishing Zach. Trout fishing is not easy up here this time of year so congrats. An 18 inch Brown in a small stream like that is a monster! I'm sure your not done with him yet.
-
Some nice trout there..looked a little chilly out too!
-
Beauty colors for sure. Weather took a turn for the worse eh? lol. Mother Nature's a b//ch ;)
-
Nice one's Zach!! Pretty fish.
Robb
-
Atta-boy!!
-
Niiice dude.... ;D seein any open water around there?
-
Zach, Nice fish! hope when I get up there I'll be able to get some fishing in too! ;D
Can't wait!

Nice fish zach! You got to love fresh snow in April. :w00t:
-
The snow certianly wasn't welcomed by ME...but that's okay, because the fish didn't seem to care a whole lot. ;D Starting to see some open water around...here and there... :whistling:
-Zach
-
Sweet Colors on those brookies :)
-
nice brookie
-
Nice Brookie but.......a Sox Fan in NY???? Man I get flack for being a Yanks Fan in Mass!!!!

Made it out to one of the many, many brookie ponds in the Adirondacks with Pikie today. Got into a few decent fish, and kept a few for the frying pan. The fish were taken both trolling (Wobblers) and casting.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2FPaul_Smiths_021.jpg&hash=9a151ec2b7d883c4efdd379631712448)
Here's Matt with the biggest one of the day...16" or so, and fat
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FPaul_Smiths_024.jpg&hash=285cbeba879e6d0b7ca08755cdba4418)
Here's what we kept...obviously they lost some color. :P
We also let a few go...these ones were kept because 3 swallowed the hook, and one had the hook come through it's mouth and out it's eye. :-\ All in all, it was a great day to be on the water...the fish are an added bonus! ;)
-Zach
-
very nice added bonus there. ;) ;D Those are some nice looking brookies :thumbup_smilie: looks like a fairly nice day to be on the water too. WTG :clapping:
-
nice brookies out of a canoe , did you manage to stay dry i know it can be a little tricky to fish out of them some times
-
Well, Pikie and I fished a carry in pond yesterday, which neither one of us had ever fished before. It was a beautiful day to be out, so we made the 1/4 mile+ carry down to the pond (this turned out to be tougher than it sounds...this trail was ROUGH and full of downed trees). We drifted around a while, trying all sorts of presentations: jigs, spinners, Rapalas, spoons, flies, streamers, worms...trolling wobblers, casting...we tried a lot!
Eventually, we get to the other end of the pond and I hook up with this nice brookie on a silver/orange Little Cleo.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2FPaul_Smiths_025.jpg&hash=1e26aaf76b7a76d8a7b235bb3b8a399b)
Finally! Unfortunately, it turned out to be the only fish of the afternoon. ::) We had a few more hits, including a few that we saw right at boat side. It was nice to fish a new pond though, and I think it would be worth trying again. Hopefully I'll get out somewhere this afternoon to get a few more!
-Zach
-
Nice lookin Brookie Zach. Lots better than the ones I got yesterday ;)

We (myself, Matt (Pikie), Hood, Beerman, ADK Mike, and a few others) headed out on Thursday morning for a trip into the Adirondack backcountry, in search of brookies and other trout. What a time we had!! To get to our destionation, we had to put into one pond, paddle a couple miles, then portage our gear .7 miles to our destination...Then, we had to turn around and go back for our canoes. Let me tell you, it sounds much easier than it really was!!
Here's a few members of our group getting ready to make the first paddle.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2FPaul_Smiths_004.jpg&hash=3a16c52e3a01ed044726f2c0e9f48fd0)
So we get camp setup, and we just HAVE to get on the water. Matt and I set out and soon enough, we're into fish. He gets the first one, and a few minutes later I'm into my first fish of the trip.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FPaul_Smiths_005.jpg&hash=25b95b4a63b9f037ea594ce37dda827f)
Here's Matt with his, already on the stringer, and mine in the other hand.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FPaul_Smiths_006.jpg&hash=0add110c2675e27760bdf20395f863e9)
Matt catches another one, so we paddle back to camp to tell everyone that they're hitting good. We get back out and catch a few more, then decide to explore the rest of the pond. Only stretch of shoreline is producing ANYTHING...turns out that's where all the fish were! We went fishless for a while, and all of a sudden we were doubled up.
Matt landed his pretty quickly.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2FPaul_Smiths_010.jpg&hash=71109f4272238456ecf0b0009cfa980c)
Mine, however, was pulling drag on me repeatedly...I didn't even see it for a while, so I thougth it was a real hog. Turned out to be nothing particularly special, just a fat, strong fish.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2FPaul_Smiths_0081.jpg&hash=1b6f873a99abda5e9af04fb3971abb94)
I didn't know whether to give you the looking away shot, or the goofy eye's closed shot...I gave you this one. Blame it on Matt... :D ;)
Our first day stringer...
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2FPaul_Smiths_0112.jpg&hash=09fabc94c6ee994d319d15b122c08f11)
The next day we got out and caught a TON of fish. However, I didn't take many pictures...the fishing was too good!
Matt got into one of the better brookies of the trip pretty early.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FPaul_Smiths_012.jpg&hash=e74640df4fbc60bbbeea1385961e1c6c)
That evening, Matt and Mike got into a few on the fly rods.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FPaul_Smiths_0132.jpg&hash=48811c993fcef7ea56948e8769d9b403)
Harry and Dom came back from their splake expedition with these awesome splake...the meat was so orange, and equally delicious!
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2Fmedium%2FPaul_Smiths_014.jpg&hash=a924b29adffe4296ec81381694219b27)
There was a better picture, but I thought this one was pretty funny... :D Harry, PM me and I'll send you the better one. ;D
It was a great trip, and I can't thank Matt enough for inviting us...I'm just looking forward to it next year!!
-Zach

It was such a beautiful day today that I just couldn't stand to be stuck inside. So I did what any sane person would do...I went fishin! I started out on "The Point" but couldn't get anything, so I moved farther down the shoreline to another point. I wasn't really fishing for anything in particular, so throwing small spinners and spoons. I happened onto a school of perch, so I switched to a small tube jig and caught a half dozen before the school moved out. All were released. I decided to continue to target shallow schools of panfish. Making my way down to an old railroad tressel, I came upon 2 schools of pumpkinseeds.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2FPaul_Smiths_026.jpg&hash=3f22bac70226f75ed1dbb7185073a198)
On the first cast I caught this dink largemouth...first bass of the season.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2FPaul_Smiths_028.jpg&hash=d14af6bb1add1889becc5821861c1c1e)
A few minutes later, I got this little smallie...first smallie of the season!
The 'seeds weren't too interested in anything, which is definitely unusual for a 'seed. I then slid a canoe in the water in search of some more pannies, but ended up battling the wind instead. My roommate came out in the kayak, so we paddled across the lake and hung out for a while. On the way back in, I decided to cast a small Floating Rapala along the shoreline.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myfishfinder.com%2Fpictures%2Fdata%2F500%2FPaul_Smiths_037.jpg&hash=90786639d87585a6f85fbe9afa8b13dd)
After a few casts I got a good strike and ended up with this little pike...the first of the season! Glad the roommate was there to get a few pictures!
It was a great day to be out on the water, and it was nice to get a little mixed bag.
