The Stanley Cup
« on: Jun 12, 2006, 01:48 PM »
Since we are into the Stanley Cup finals I was wondering who here has had a chance to see the Stanley Cup up close or drink from it?

I actually did see the cup up close and drink from when the Colorado Avalanche won the cup in their first season. One of the players is a good friend of mine and he invited me to his Stanly Cup party in his home town. :)

A very cool experience for me indeed. ;D

Two security guards dressed in all back never left the cups side all night long.

Everyone from Western NY knows that Detroit didn't win in 99.  And either did Dallas for that matter.   >:(

I've seen Lord Stanley's at the HHOF in Toronto, and it came to Rochester with Brian Gionta after the Devils last win (but I didn't go).  I have seen the Calder up close in Brockport after the Amerks last won it.

Devil-man the cup had champaign in it, I am not so fond of champaign but from the cup it tasted great. :)

It was a cool experience indeed, the player held the cup until everyone who wanted to drank, he was getting tired by the end, it's quite heavy.  :flex:

Glad he didn't drop it, that would not have been good :whistling:

I have had the chance to see the cup a few times. First was in the Hockey hall of fame in To where you cant lift nor drink from it.

Corey Stillman (ex Lighning, now Hurricane) is from my home Town and brought it home when he won it 2 years ago.

When I was younger I also got to see it when Steve Chaison (rip) brought it home after a redwings victory. he to is from my home town.

No drinking from it, but cool to see

When I was a kid we used to take the train into Prince Albert to go shopping once a month and they had it in a department store window.  It must of been around 1959 or '60.  We knew Johnny Bower then because he owned Johnny's Igloo ice cream parlour in Waskiesiu (and another in Saskatoon) and the Red Deer Motel in Waskiesiu and my sisters and mother worked for him.  He had his trophies on a shelf all around the cafe, but never the Stanley Cup.
By the way, a couple of weeks ago I was watching a fishing show (not sure which one, but it's the one with that big-mouthed Daryl Cronzy) and the guest was Johnny Bower!

So I was pretty busy at work today but I wanted Buck and company to know that I am really trying at this hockey thing so......... on my way into the office today, I stopped by a roadside stand and purchased my Hurricane's Jersey  ;D

I'm on the wagon  ;)

Right.  So I did not watch the game last night, but I saw a decent cartoon in our paper this morning - like 5 hurricane players, going down the road in a stepside (probably Ford) with their sticks hanging out the windows, and the Cup laced down in the back bed

Pretty good but I thought with the minds today - somebody - most likely up in Edmonton, has/would come up with better  :-\

Here is mine............(and this is totally meant with no disrespect) but - I thought somebody would put down a cartoon, with the Cane's team sitting around the Cup, having well, a good Chew  :nono:

Boo Lindz for such a thought I know  :nono: try and accept my apology for being  Lindz.

And so as to not steal the thread and to keep with Buck's last thought, just where did these boy's here Grow Up ??

- To learn ?? Such a ??  ""As you put it "cheap shot artist's" game of hockey"" ??  :w00t:

Lindz - NC (just an ole B.C. Dusters fan).
