Just curious if anyone has had any luck for lake trout and brookies since ice out at Maranacook.

A fair number of stocked brookies around and being caught soon after they went in.  Don't know how the fishing has been for them lately.  Togue......numbers seem to have fallen off the table in recent years....no stocking, a liberalized bag limit, and no evidence of significant natural repro.

theres a few fish still hanging around, but its a good day of fishing when you catch one or two.

Exactly.  Big change from a few years back.  IF&W hasn't decided if they plan to stock anymore togue, and may even try salmon.  The lake was on the short list to get some of those Seeforellen strain brown trout, but dropped off the list.

doesnt make much sense to put salmon in there with togue and browns. personally it is stupid to even put brookies in there, they dont make it past norcross point any ways. would like to see them put some more browns and togue instead of brookies and salmon because they will have a tougher timer surviving with whats in the lake now. or maybe bows instead of browns. just my two cents

I agree, I coud see that lake responding well to some consistant stocking of browns and rainbows.

Rainbows and browns wouldnt be a bad idea.....they need to start stocking togue and get rid of the liberal bag limit. The ice fishing was extremely slow this year for togue. If you got one fish you had a good day.

I pretty much agree with everyone's thoughts on this.  The browns seem to be doing OK.  I'd up the numbers going in for them.  Rainbows might be worth a try.  IF&W may still put in some togue, but maybe not this year.  I'm no biologist, but I have a buddy who is.  I pass on my thoughts from time to time.  We'll see what happens given the economic times.  He might just decide I'm completely off my rocker.  Oh well, he wouldn't be the first

Jeez, Nick, if you thought the togue fishing was slow, imagine how the those fishing around you felt :P  At least you were the "1 flag wonder" ;)

I know Jim, I shouldnt be complaining :D. I was 2 for 3 at your togue spot this year. Not too bad I guess. ;)

Well, my buddy and I fished Maranacook last night. We trolled for about 3hrs (until dark) using smelts. We ended up getting hits from white and a few yellow perch. No game fish. Talked with another fisherman who pulled his boat out right before we did. He said the bass fishing wasn't to bad.

Thanks for the report.  With the togue numbers way down, white perch are sort of filling in as the "predators" in the system in the south end.  You had a decent shot at browns virtually anywhere in the lake, but far from a sure thing.  Did you fish the Winthrop or Readfield end??
