I'll be there, thanks Dakota for getting the word out. We'll be talking about improving the ramp on Loomis and an Ice Fishing Derby we are planning to partner with the Parks Dept on. Anyone want to help us with that derby? Come out and get involved.

Minutes from Friends of Fishing Meeting Sept. 28th

In attendance: Dakota, Willijac, Wallydiven, PortageRedNeck, Crappiehunter, High Flags and Dan McGuire(from the Valpo Parks Dept).

We talked about the Ramp on Loomis and the contacts that Mike and Dan have had with the DNR about it. We've found out that the DNR does not own the ramp but might be willing to lease it to help with the improvement. Mike and Dan are going to contact Jamie Smyth again to get some clarification on that and see what is best. The City is desirous of improving the ramp and wants to see  this done and we just need to find the best way to do it. We need to know the cost  and permit process. This looks very promising. Thanks for the support Dan!

The second thing we did was talk about an Ice Fishing Derby on Feb. 5, 2011 that would be done in partnership between Friends of Fishing and Valpo Parks. The Parks would promote it in their literature. We agreed to do this derby and the details will be coming out soon on how it's going to be done. All proceeds are going to do to the building of the new ramp on Loomis. Thanks Dakota for all your work on the details of the Derby and also on promoting tonights meeting. Dakota called the Porter County Conservation Club and they have not set their date yet and agreed to avoid this date.

Our next meeting will be Oct. 26th at 7pm at Liberty Bible Church 824 N. Calumet Ave. Chesterton, Indiana. For information, contact any of our members listed above.
Crappie, Bass, Gills, Eyes, Pike, anything that swims!!

The loomis ramp does need improvement, any possiblity about putting a lock box at the ramp so people can make donations when they use they ramp to help the improvements.

Thanks for coordinating with the PCCC on the ice fishing tournament, the last guy that ran one seemed to make it on the some day which only hurt both. Now guys can fish both tournaments. Looking forward to that and we are only in september and probally 2-3 months away from ice.
