Lewey lake
« on: Jun 28, 2011, 10:56 AM »
Im heading up to lewey lake july 15th with my 6 year old daughter for the weekend. Im bringing my 14' aluminum boat. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on what kind of fish are in there and where we should start. Any info would be appreciated.

casting top waters and jerkbaits along the left shoreline up by galushas is usually good for some bass there are some nice ones too. also the other end of the lake by where the miami is , is usually good for northerns a lot of guys fish it with golden shiners and a bobber its also good bullhead fishing down there in the spring and fall its pretty slow right now though. also if your looking to just catch fish go out to the rock pile in the middle of the lake and fish with worms youll catch a ton of rock bass

It's a nice like, and a fun campground...  I was up there two weeks ago, its always a nice place to hang out for a few days...

The actual 'ramp' for boat launching is basically just a spot next to the beach.  It is REALLY shallow (I can't launch my 14ft Starcraft from there without putting half my Pathfinder and exhaust under water) so hopefully you can put your boat in.

A small aluminum sliding out of a truck is no problem, but if you have 12in trailer tires like me it might be tricky.  And getting the boat back ON the trailer could be interesting...  These days, I just bring my canoe.  The whole lake can be covered with one easily.

I also think they rent rowboats, but I never have.

The Indian Lake access ramp is only about 400 yards away from the campground too...   And its a 'real' ramp that can accomodate pretty much any boat.  But Lewey's really is not a ramp at all.

As mentioned, lots of bass and pike in there...  It was slow last weekend but there are fish to be had.  Have fun and good luck!

Here is the view you can expect from one of the better sites lakeside:

Great Campsite.    It is especially good if you can go before school gets out.  Like the first couple weeks of June.  It is usually very quite around that time.    We stay on the other side of the bridge on the outlet side of the lake.  Great Area.

Nice campground they have there, we go almost every year. Last year there were small bears all around, walk right in your site and they are not afraid so keep food out of sight even in the day. If you get a chance on the outlet there are some awesome beaver dams and some nice holes. Enjoy
