Smallies
« on: Aug 24, 2011, 07:24 AM »
No....Not bass but small carp! I fished from 6 Am to 8 PM yesterday & caught carp all day but they were all small. The biggest one I caught was only 6 lbs the rest were in the 14 in range. Don't know where the biggies were hiding, maybe hiding from the quake! Every time I had a bite I was hoping for a big one but that wasn't happening. Great weather & I had fun all day & the day flew by. Some pics.

couldn't tell you a thing about carp fishing...I've tried it unsuccesfully every time, but those are some great photos, love the one of the rabbit...looks like a real nice spot you got there!
what do you catch them on, dough balls?  how you makin' your bait?  I'm going to try again this weekend, there's a spot I know that has MASSIVE carp, it's a little pond attached to lake ontario, they swim laps round this pond and never bite my bait!
tight lines....

DL....Google "Hair Rig" & you will quickly learn how to make them. Undoubtedly the best rig for carp fishing. I use canned sweet corn & also drain a can & mix it with Old Fashioned oatmeal to dry it out enough to put it in a PVA mesh bag & then string it onto my hook link. No bait goes on the hook, just on the hair. When they pick up the bait on the hair the hook also gets in their mouth & the weight of the sinker attached hooks their lower jaw.
Here's a pic of the rig I use.

The short & long stringer needles in the pic are for putting the corn on the hair & the long one is for putting the PVA on the hook link. In this pic I have some pellets in the PVA. The PVA melts away when it gets in the water & you have some chum around the corn on the hair. Sounds complicated but it's not. If you get into those big carp, you'll be like me & not want to fish for other fishes.

you say it doesn't look complicated...but I beg to differ.  I might have to give it a go, seems to work well for you.
