« on: Jun 21, 2012, 03:58 PM »
Got this new oil to mix with my gas, a 1999 9.9 johnson outboard,  no indication on the ratio to use
Its the XD30 premium formula by evinrude/johnson (red oil)

good or not?

I just started using that in my 73 seaking 50 to 1.
They have oil mix cups that have it all calculated on it down to 1/2 gallon of fuel for all different mix ratios.

Not to repeat, but your Johnson runs on a 50:1 ratio. One pint to 6 gals of gas, or use a mix ratio table.

Rat, in my opinion, it's not that the combustion of E-10 burns hotter, it's the risk of the separation of gas versus alcohol/water. The gas will hold the 2 stroke oil where the alcohol and water will repel it therefore when any older fuel is used, you risk a lack of lubricating oil to the bearings/bushing within the engine IF the blend begins to separate. This is what I think is confused with 'burning hotter'. If the engine is allowed to run without adequate lubrication, well, you know the result.  >:(

No, I'm not a scientist, nor an expert on fuels but when I went in search of answers to your statement I came across something I'm not so sure I agree with. The link below to me has tons of holes, and note who sponsored the site as well..  ::)

Just more for 'us to discuss',, or should I rephrase that to  'be disgusted with'...  :P

dont worry pretty soon the high land values in the mid west will crash, corn will tank, carbon credits will disapear, and we will not have to deal with ethanol anymore
