first mess of softwater season

made it out to my post ice channel from 2-7. i only had 5 fish in my bucket by 4:00, then it was like somebody flipped the switch. black flies tipped with spikes under a casting bubble was the ticket. ended up with 58 gills, crappies did not cooperate for some reason   . most of the gills ranged 8-8.5". there is still some fishable ice out there but im done with that lol.

thx! it started out a little tough...i lost 10 gills in a row and only put 5 in the bucket by 4:00. was almost ready to leave, then they turned on big time. patience is virtue!

Nice mess, maybe instead of still trying to walk on water I need to find me a channel.  I recently gained permission to fish a couple if channels off of the barbee chain.  Might have to check those out tomorrow!

thx! i guess they are still gettin on round as of today. i tried a couple barbee channels yesterday with no dice. there was so much slime floating you couldnt fish.

same spot i always go to blue, standing from shore...no crappies tho! since the channel never froze im thinking the crappie are already done in that spot.
