Fly fishing Hurshtown
« on: Jun 06, 2014, 03:49 PM »
Broke out the fly rod at Hurshtown looking for rising carp. I lost two of them early and couldn't find anymore, so I switched to smallmouth and caught 5 in about an hour on a black wooly bugger. They're just so much fun!

I'd post pics if I could figure out how to do it on my phone.

Cool!  What size rod and leader should a girl use for big carp?  I'm fixin to break out the mulberry fly!   ;)

5 smallies per hour sounds like a good time!

As for posting pics, I upload the pics onto Photobucket and do the copy n paste thing.

Rod weight depends on a lot of factors, but anywhere between 5-9at would certainly work. I've caught them on my 5wt a few times, but I feel much more comfortable using my 8wt (which is what I used today)

As for tippets, a 3.5x or 2x is best. Those things make runs like a freight train, so a strong tippet is always good.

Good luck and have a blast!
